Tliurston - Edttoi TRUTH BEFORE FAVOR- .^^ .„^. PRINCIPLES. NOT MEN MENDELISM AND WHEAT The Mondeliaii law of specicH, of which little is known by the general |inl>lic, is likely to come more to the front durinj; the next few months, owing to the fact that scientists have succeeded through this la* m producing two nevv and iin- port.int varieties of wheat, that are likely lo work a revolution in the wheat pro- ducing capabilities of our soil. The law which has tii-en so successful in produc ing such marvelouj lesulls will come in for more extensive investigation than it has in the piisi. Those who desire to know what Mendelism is can consult a book with this title by R. C. Pluukett, published iu the United States last year. What our resders will be mors con- cerne'i about, however, than the law discovered by the Austro-Silesian monk, is the result as worked out by experi- menters in the growing iuf two new vari- eties of wheat, claimed lo be rust proof, heavy straw, large yielder, a producer of tlour of superior strength, and all round a vast improvement on any known vari- ety. The.se wheats are being grown un the experimental farms in Rngland this summer, and the full result will be known in a few weeks. The varie'y which ap- pears to be most popnlur in Enifland is known as " Little Joss." In conjunction with the al>ovs, chemists have been experimenting with soil possibilities and nave discovered that "by the u»e of manures which do uot permit the soil to become acid, it is fpos- sible to abandon the rotation of crnpa and to grow wheal continuou.sly in the' s.iine .soil." For these facts we are indebted to a recent article by Prof. C. W. Saleeby of Kuinborough univeisity, who is an au- thui'ity un Mendelism, and whose an- nouncement on the phases referred to will aty^ict wide attention, and probably humid the dawn of a new and intensely important era in the production of the '• statTof life." ATTEMESIA R. H. S. The Arteiiiesia Rural High School record for 11<11 is worth pasting up. In the Entrance to Normal exam, three pupils wrote and two were successful - Clara Binnie and (<ertm .Bellamy. At the District exam, three wrote, and all three were successful. Of tht .six pupils of this school who wrote for their Matriculation live were succes-sful. Thus, out of a total of twelve writing, ten were successful, which is a showing of which any school mi^ht be proud, and proves that the painv-laking work of the teachers is placing this school on a high plane of etticlency at the very beginning. It is believed that the coming year will prove even more satisfactory, and pupils will make no mi.stitke in enrolling under the tutelage of Mr. Marcellus and Mis-s L. M. Philp, B. A., who will constitute a strong team. fisheries. Accmpanying the notice fromi .he department received by the county cleik. was a copy of the order-in cuncil dealing with the matter, reading thus:â€" "Upon the recommendai ion of the honorable,, the Minister of Public Wjrks the committee of the executive council advise that pursuant lo the pr .visions of section 9 (a) (if the Ontario (iame and Fisheries Act, and in iiccoidance with the resoluiiop passed by the councd ofj (Jrey, passed oh the24th of June, l!)lt', the taking or killing of deer in the county f (Jrey he pr diibited for a period of three years from the 1st day of N.ivember 1911." Re^Ether Morriscy] Father Morriscy's "No. 11" Cures Stomach Troubles. When your stomach is working right you never |lH|;!i:'::;\J** „-/{ ' ' 'M know it is there. But when it feels as heavy as lead- when you have Heartburn, Belching of Wind, Sourne&s, a gnawing hunger, with distress after eatingâ€" when you feel irritable and depressed â€" then you may know that the digestive fluids in the stomach are not sufficient to digest what you eat. Father Morriscy's "No. ii" Tablets supply these fluids in concentrated form. Each tablet, dissolved in the stomach, will digest iH pounds of food, which is more than aa average meal. Read what Father Morriscy's treatment did for Mr. Gosline, of Salmon Lake. He writes Nov. 30. 1908 : •I was troubled with indigestion, so severe that I really thought r had cancer of the stomach. I took much doctors remedi^, till I was forced to seek another rewurce, and IhU was the Rev. Father Morriscy. His treatments worked miracles, until I have been entirely cured, so that now I do not look to the quality of the diet but to the quantity." . , , • • e« 50c. at your dealer s. oa Father Morriaey M.dloine Co..
