Henry of Orangevillo has Heen here in the interests of the A. O. U. W during the past week. On Fri- day eveniag last a special meeting was held when a couple of candidates were initiated into the mysteries of the order and on Tuesday ten new members inter viewed the goat. This influx is a result of the special public meeting held in the town hall recently, and will place the Iodide here in a more prosperous condition than ever, with a membership of about fifty. A five mile marathon race from the niilway at Duntrcon to the Globe Hot&l Corner, Stayner, on Saturday afternoon aroused ^reat interest among admirers of athletic sports. Ihere were eight entries but two dropped out along the way. S. Haverson, New Lowell, finished first, covering the distance in the remarkably liood time of 29 minutes, considering thu very t.,id state of the road. He was fol owed by Hewson, Graham, Robinson. Fryer and Rose in the order named. Tlie first |.r ze was SIO, and the second was the amount of the entrance fee. There was a big crowd in town and groat interest was manifsited in the event. â€" Ciecmoro Star. Mrs. Robert Fawcett, sr., died at her son's residence near He ithcote on Tues- day laiit at the ripe aae of 88 years. She leaves a family of six son» and three (lauabters, one of the latter being Mrs. Ueniy Down of Hatherton. Mr. J. R. Fawceit of Kimberley is one of the sons, â- â€¢nil A. R. Fawcett, editor of the Burk's Falls Arrow, is another. Mrs. Fawcett lived with her husband in Flesherton for some yijai's and was beloved by all who knew her. It was with regret that her many warm friends here heard of her deinisH. She was one of the most cheer- ful \\\y\ warm hearted old ladies that we have ever met and had a strong abiding faitb i.i an expanding e.Mstenco beyond ihis world's environment Her life was full and complete in good works and she has U008 10 reap her reward. Mr. M K. Richardson returned Mon- ilay from a business trip to Muskoka and P.irry Sound districts. He finds senile preity hard cases. For instance some twenty iiiilos from Huntsvilla he foai.d tive|children, thceldestouly 13 years of ago, cared for by an old grandmother 82 years of aife. The only thing they bad ill the hou.so was corn meal and water. One little girl had her arm badly broken and this had not been sot and w 18 in a bad state. The mother had died two years ago. The father is living but do.es not prjvide properly for kjiem. None of the children had any sea.soimblc clothing. The injured child was cared for by a surgeon and the rest taken awny to find bettor homes. This is only ono of many hearti ending cases Mr. Richardson IS called upon to look after. It is sad indeed to know that we have so many cases of this kind in our land of plenty. The Advance was misinformed as to the cou'tition of hotel all'airs in Durham. The Chronicle of last week says both hotels Were not shut up as the Central hotel was open all the time, and afforded all the accomodation possible during the time the Uahn House was closed, and Mr Halin never '"succeeded" in getting biiu to cl'ise, nor have we heard of any atiempt made by him to do so. In fact, Mr. Hahn denies to us that he ever defied the auihoii'ies. He says he never teld his boardeta to leave, mr did ho ever try to induce the other hotel to close up. He said it was none of his business what the other man did and he never interfered with him in any way. We think Mr. Hahn made a mistake in closing up his house as he did, but we presume hu had a right to do so if he felt that way. Ii is hnih time for not only the temper- ance peop>, but the citizons of Durham as a whole, to make provision against any Himilar enicrgoncy in the future. Th^ success 01 failure of the local option movement here depends largely upon the lemperaiice people iheniselvi'S, but the faci tliai it lakes mere than wind to build and mil hotels must nit ba lost srght of. pil CC iet Immeddte relier fhND .Shoop'sMa^cOintmenti W. The Shallow Lake Cement company are said to have orders ahead suiticient to keep them going night and day until next Christmas. The old fashioned way of dosing a weak stomach, or stimulating the Heart or Kid- neys is all wrong. Dr. Shoop first point- ed out this error. This is why his pre- scription â€" Dr. Sboop's Restorative â€" is directed entirely to the cause of these ailineiits, the weak inside or cunkrulling nerves. It isn't so difficult, says Dr. Shoop, to strengthen a weak Stomach, Heart, or Kidneyi, if one goes at it correctly. Each inside organ has its controlling or inside nerve. When these nerves fail, then these organs must surely falter. These vital truths are leading druggists everywhere to dispense and recommend Dr. Sboop's Restorative. Test it a few days, and see!
