Supplement to THE ADVANCE Flesherton, December 31, 1908. Gas At Keldon. There is considerable excitement among the residents of East Luthsr and Proton over the discoTery of natural gas, one mile west 'of Keldon on the town line. The eii>ert drillers have been at work for some time im a farn» owned by David Bruce, but occupied by J. L. Biirbaree as tenant. A good flow of gai was struck on Thursday of laat>eek at a depth af 1966. The drillers at once telephoned the fact to Eugene Co»te, Toronto, who-is manager for the company, and one of the best known oil and gas experts in Canada and he carae up on Friday to test the flow. With the sand pump in the drill bole which'only allowed a small portion of the gas to escape, the gas when lit at the ^rface caused the flames to reach to the heighth ofjteu feet above the ground . The drillers state that the indications for oil in the well are the best they h^ve sesn in Ontario. They are now down over 2100 feet'and were ordered to drill only in the day time for fear of an explosien Jrom lamps at night from escap- ing gas. Up to the time gas WHS discovered they were drilling night and day without any lost time except for ordinary repairs etc. The fitrmers in the vicinity are highly delighted over the discovery and we trust their expectations may bo fully realized and that abundance of oil and gas may be found in the locality.â€" Shelburne Free Press. Mayor Calder r>nd manager Catton of the Furniture Factory were m Woodstock last week investiitating the possibility of securing for Durham a new industry for the making of table casters, and numer- ous other small articles of iron. They have come home convinced that the proposition is a good one; the Woodstock people ask neither loan nor bonus, but expect reasonable treatment as to taxes for a term of years. It is also expected that Durham will subscribe privately for a certain amount of slock, about $120,00(), the sellers showing their faith in the enterprise by putting in $10,000. The old cream separator building could be utilized after a slight expenditure. It is expected from 25 ro 40 hands would be employed and we hope it may be secured. â€" Review.
