George Best Dead Mr. George Best, one of the very few remaining first settlers of Artemesia township, pas-sed away Tuesday about tho noon hour, after an extended illness, at the ripe age of 84 years. Tho deceased gentleman was born in Limerick county, Ireland, and citnio to this country when a young man. Ho wa.s married at Streets- ville to a Mi.sH Duncan, who predeceased him some years ago. Together they sot- tied on the west n.ick lino, three miles ."outh of Flesherton, about 58 years since, where they prosiiored and raised a family of sovon children â€" three sons and four daughters, viz. : Mrs. Robert Taylor, 'ryroiio ; James, Proton Station, ex-Councillor; Robert, who now occupies a seat at the Council hoard ; John, on the homostead ; Mrs. Wm. Hacking, Woodstock, N.B. ; Mrs. Duncan Stew- art, DejMjt Harbor ; and Mrs. Alox. Stew- art. Teeswat«r. Fourtoon years ago Mr. Best married Mis. Blakely and came to re-side in Flohhorton, leavini/ tho homo- Htwid with his son, John. Hid widow survives him. Tho roniains will be in- terred in Flesherton comotory to-day (Thursday) at 2 p m. The New Railway. The now C. P. R. branch to Walkerton was opened as tar as Hnniver last week. Two trains are run each way pur day. (;onnection is made wiih all trains on this line at Saugeen Junction, but there is a wait from 8.10 a, m- to 11.45 a. in. and from 4 35 to 8.25 p. m., which makrs it useless for passenger service from here to Priceville or Durham. As an evidence of the un-satisfsctury service, a person desiring to go to Durham would leave PNc.Hherton in the morning, travel three miles, and wait three hours si the junction. They would leave Durham on tlie return journey at 3.40 p. p., t'et to the junction at 4.35, and be compelled lo wait there for snother three hoursâ€" six hours of waiting for trains in one day, with a slop at Durham nf about three hourit! This is accomodution with venge- ance. If desiring to go to Hanover the stop would bo about two hours. There is no station at the junction and is not likely to be one built this summer. Passontiers may pick wild daisies and mustard in the fields by way of pastime. The direct distance fri>m Flesherton station to Priceville Ijy the gravel road is 3^ miles, by the railway it is a fraction over eight miles, and it takus four hours to make that eight inilea ! Outsiders will scarcely otqi to think of tho ainoun*; of timo, enrrgy and thought devoted to a day of this kind, and the result this year, as in the past, would have done honor to any oily. N jr will we loave the subjeot without devoting a word of praise to the commiilee itself, which worked harmoni- ously and enerKOtiejiUy wilh so grand a result.
