Tlie eld fashioned joint picnic between the Presbyterian and Methodint Sunday schools, held on the beaver meadow, near Flesherton, last Wednesday, was one of the most enjoyable affairs of the kind which we ever attended. The day w;i» pleasant, the crowd was large, anu every one,old and yuung, abanduned themselves to the festivities with an enerty that de- noted the complete puttiii'^ away of buni- ueas anxibly. Baseball, croquet, swiue- inj,', and other games were plentiful. It was beautiful to see elderly gentlemen return to the games of their childhood, such as "duck on the rock," "tag," and "command you red lion." It was also beautiful to see them limping along the street on the following day like old spavined, riiigboned, foundered horsee, with dejected, muscle-contracted looks in their faces. Anyway they had a good time, and judging by the crovrds present the old annual Sunday scheul picnic has lost none of its charms. An itinerant showman pitched his tent on Trimble's corner last Friday. The show was not advertised nor heralded in in any way What the show was, only the owner knew. It was his business. If any person wished to tind out hu could pay his dime for the information. .An old colicky drum and an asthmatic hand organ furnished what was called music inside the tent. We waited around for a long time in the vain endeavor to find soma one who had bean inside, but htd to give it up in disgust. We actually did not see one person enter the yawning canvas d<H>r. A shooting gallery oy the outside drew considerable custom, but as Tommy Hollinger was away camping the shouting contest was not very spirited. The tliowiiiati folded their tent on Sunday evening and cautiously stole away while the natives were at church, which makes us suspicious that tliey were not exactly Methodists, Presbyterians nor Baptists. In fiict we don't believe they were very religious people, anyway. He WftB Balky. If there is anythiii:; in this world more exasperating than a balky horse thiA paper would like to know whni it is.
