- This photograph show the use of a jackladder to convey logs from the water to the paper mill.Crews standing by on the platform would haul the logs out of the water, and onto the jackladder. Logs would then be stockpiled near the mill. Boats shown here in the water were called 'gators', short for alligator boats.
