Description
Portrait of James Conmee: politician, entrepreneur, railroad and lumber magnate. James Conmee began work in this area installing machinery for the Oliver-Davidson sawmill on the Kaministiquia River in 1872. During his years in the Lakehead he became influential in railroad construction, purchased the Northern Hotel, served as Councillor in Prince Arthur's riding South, and became the second mayor of Port Arthur in 1884. He served as an MLA for six terms in the Ontario legislature and two terms in the House of Commons.
