- Description
- Sharp eyes were able to read the ribbon on Peter Heenan's lapel. It reads 'The Seventh Annual Convention Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce Fort William September 22-23 1937'
While it is likely that both men attended the NWO Chamber of Commerce Convention, they were here for other reasons as well. On Sept. 24th, Peter Heenan, Provincial Minister of Lands and Forests and C.D. Howe, then Federal Minister of Transportation, would travel along with a giant motorcade from Fort William to Nipigon. There, both men would preside over the official opening of the Nipigon Bridge, opening a new link on the Trans-Canada Highway.
