Description
A lonely stretch of highway on the way to Red Lake, surrounded by spruce forests. Before the highway, travel and shipping were done by the water systems or by air. The road to Red Lake required the clearing of 1325 acres of land, and the excavation of 400,000 cubic yards of rock and earth. The cost was three million dollars. Everyone in the town was pleased to be connected to the outside world for the first time by an all weather highway. Also, at this time, a new court house, Provincial Police office and jailhouse would be built in Red Lake. The federal government also planned to provide a new, paved airport and a road connecting it to Red Lake.
