Photo of construction of the Howey Mill, Oct 6, 1929. The Howey mine was the first major discovery in the Red Lake area that would justify the cost of building of a highway or power plant in the remote area of Red Lake, Ontario. Howey Gold Mine, was named after Lorne Bain Howey, the prospector that discovered gold veins 60 to 70 ft. wide showing visible gold. General Engineering was the Contractor.
