- Description
- Construction of the Hydro colony began in 1937 to house employees and their families. However, when the second unit of the power plant was installed, the construction camp was built on the west side of the dam away from the Hydro colony, at the present site of the transformer yard which supplies the Ear Falls townsite. Hydro construction crews were not only working on the dam, but were also rebuilding the Hydro colony. At that time, they built seven new two storey homes, a school house, and a community hall. All buildings had running water, sewers, full basements, laundry facilities, and were heated by wood furnaces.
