In May of that year, the church's Board approved an architect's design for the building. The church was completed in an amazingly quick five months, and the first mass was held on Dec. 9, 1951. Rev. Arthur Lavender officiated that first mass, and remained with the Community Church until his retirement in 1959. In the early 1960s, a vestibule was added to the original structure, and later that decade, the church--and the community--caught the atten- tion of a church magazine.
