Terrace Bay passes donations policy by Darren MacDonald Staff Starting this spring, organi- zations looking for money from the Township of Terrace Bay will have to go through a dona- tions committee first. They will decide who is eligible for fund- ing. The Council Donations Poli- cy was passed Sept. 30. It out- lines general eligibility guide- ~ lines groups must meet in order to qualify for assistance. "In the past, a group might come in January or February and be able to get money, but by the time June came around, there often wouldn't be money available for another group," says Coun. Chris Joubert. It was Joubert's idea for Council to create and adopt a policy. "Right now, donations are decided every time (Council) meets, and whether or not a group gets money depends on what kind of mood Council is in," he says. "We're hoping that this will make it a lot fairer." Council will make donations to community groups twice a year--once in the spring and once in the fall. Organizations will have to fill out a detailed application and, if it's approved, they will also have to fill out a form detailing how the money was actually used. "We want to make sure that people are accountable for the money they receive," says continued on page 6 McCausland accredited by Darren MacDonald Staff For the third consecutive time, the McCausland Hospital has received the highest accreditation that the Canadian Council on Health Facilities (CCHF) gives out. "You can get a one, two or three year accreditation," says Clem Fewer, the hospital's Chief Executive Officer. "And since 1986, we've gotten a three year accreditation each time, which means we've met or surpassed the standards set by the CCHF for the level of service patients should be given." How long an accreditation a hospital gets depends on how well they do during their assessment, to a maximum of three years. The hospital was assessed by CCHF surveyors who visit- ed the McCausland last June. It was judged on everything from its medical staff to its purchas- ing procedures, says Fewer.
