In addi- tion, we will have to pay the bill for a greatly enlarged House of Commons that could grow to over 400 MP's by the year 2001. If I were allowed to vote on each part of the Charlottetown Consensus, I would.say "no" to this piece of the bargain. Since I can't vote that way, I can only hope that if the deal gets an overall "yes" vote on October 26, we northemers stand up and demand that Bob Rae give us fair representation by passing provincial legislation specify- ing that northern Ontario can never have less than a certain number of Senate and House seats. Anything less condemns Northern Ontario to political eunuchdom and assures the domination of urban Canada in politics, forever.
