It was in need of veterinari- an's care, but the owner refused to take him to the vet, and I had to have the puppy destroyed. This is just one example of abuse that pets face in our towns. I also have had many calls from concerned children who are worried about some homeless puppies. I attended the town council meeting and saw the list of names of the people who were protesting the increase. If everyone who signed the petition became involved, then maybe there would be fewer unwanted and abused pets in our community. The town and the by-law enforcement officer can only do so much. We do not have a local Soci- ety for the Prevention of Cruel- ty to Animals, so we have to be responsible for our own prob- lems. If you see a puppy or dog running around loose, report it to the local by-law office immediately. If an animal is abused and you see the abuse, phone the OPP and report it.
