"This assistance tops off $300,000 of waterfront devel- opment funding for Terrace Bay," Martel said. "It will lead to tourism development and recreation for residents." A total of $400,000 is being spent on the development, including work being done at the gorge and a consultant's study that recommends further srant development plans for the beach. The Township is providing the remaining $100,000. "(The survey) will take in the land from the highway to the lake, including the gorge," said Terrace Bay Clerk-Treasurer David Fulton. "Right now Kimberly Clark owns the property, and they've agreed to transfer ownership to us," Fulton said. He said the purpose of the survey is to determine the boundaries of the land the Township will need for the beach development. The grant is provided for survey through MNDM's Northern Community Economic Devel- opment Program. "This is another step towards shoreline development for Ter- race Bay," the press release quoted Lake Nipigon MPP and Minister of Transportation Gilles Pouliot as saying. Most of the work is sched- uled for completion this winter, but a few projects will be fin- ished this spring. "They can't really finish the parking lot until the frost is off the ground," Fulton said. "And there's a few other odds and ends that they have to wait for the spring to finish." But some residents feel more is at stake than money. by Darren MacDonald The News Preserving the town hall in Schreiber was on the mind of a delegation of citizens who attended Schreiber Council March 3. Schreiber Reeve Bob Krause told them that no definite plans have been made concerning what will eventually be done with the hall. "But my personal feeling is that it should come down," Krause said. As it is, he said yearly main- tenance costs for the building are about $25,000. Even if it's renovated, Krause said mainte- nance costs would be consider- ably more expensive than they would be for a new building. He based his figures on a consultant's study which looked at the costs of renovat- ing and maintaining the exist- ing building, and looked at the costs of a new building . He also said a survey was done asking residents for their continued on page 2 { sage a '. DIANNE O'NEILL TERRACE BAY INSURANCE LTD.
