No longer taking applications Ontario Credit Counselling ACCESS has announced that it will not be able to take any new applications because of a recent Ontario Ministry of Social Services decision to stop all Credit Counselling services on March 31, 19991. Joyce Brown, senior credit counsellor at the toll-free tele- phone service, says she's extremely distressed at having to take this action. "People are more desperate . than at any other time in my experience," said Brown, who has been a counsellor for 12 years. "The economy has been very slow to recover and it is the average worker who is suf- fering the most. For the province to stop funding at any time is inconceivable, but at this time it is irresponsible." During the past six moths, the service has counselled more than 461 families and individuals. Brown said she and her staff are feeling like Scrooge. "To turn away clients who are coming to you under extreme stress is the hardest Thank You The family of the fate Edna Cocks would and. like to express our sincere thanks appreciation to relatives, friends, neighbours Q and co-workers for the kindness and support shown during the loss of a special Mother and Grandmother. To all those who phoned or -- thank you for your support. Thank you : action for a counsellor to take, especially where there is no other service available to them," she said.
