Page 9, News, Tuesday, August'13; 1991 Critique 4 Ducktales: The Movie, Treasure of the Lost Lamp Rating: O POO... With the voices of: Alan Young, Christopher Lloyd, Rip Taylor and Russi Taylor. This is the first full-length feature film from Uncle Scrooge, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webby and Launchpad. They couldn't have picked a better one to start with. Full of action; danger; lost treasure and a magic genie, this movie is a delightful roller coaster of fun and fantasy.Uncle Scrooge has spent 40 years searching for the lost treasure of Collie-babba and at an archeological dig, they find a chest bearing his seal. Anticipating riches, Scrooge is disappointed when the chest offers up only old clothes, but not to despair, for they find a map, in a jacket pocket, that reveals the hiding place of the lost treasures. Now they begin their jour- ney across the hot dessert, their heads filled with thoughts of immense riches. But danger lurks all around them. Their guide, Dijion, is really the ser- vant of the evil sorcerer, Mur- lock . He also wants the trea- sure, but for-a different reason: Murlock decides to let Scrooge look for the treasure for him. Uncle Scrooge and his gang find the pyramid marked on the map. Once inside they must avoid a maze of booby traps and man-eating scorpions. They find the treasure only to lose it to Murlock, who ends up tossing it away in his search for a lamp. Not just any lamp, mind you, but a magical one with a wishing granting genie inside. It seems that the great thief Collie-babba stole the lamp from Murlock, who was using it for evil intentions. Not knowing of the lamp powers, Uncle Scrooge gave it NER 00? Back home in Duckburg, she and the boys soon learn it's true identity and they band together to keep the Genie safe from Murlock. When Uncle Scrooge learns about the Genie, he lets his greed overcome his common sense and in doing so, alerts Murlock to the location of the lamp. At the Archeological Society Ball, Scrooge loses the lamp and Dijion finds it. Believing him to be (compared to Mur- lock), the lesser of 2 evils, Genie Convinces Dijion to keep the lamp for himself. Dijion takes possession of all that Uncle Scrooge owns and has him thrown in jail. His family gets Scrooge out and helps him break into the money bin in hopes of getting the lamp back. Murloock has also come there in his bid for the lamp. Uncle Scrooge and Murlock struggle and Murlock gets the lamp. Is this the end for uncle Scrooge and his family/Will Murlock become evil ruler of the world? Will Genie ever find the rest and happiness he so desperately wants? The answers to all these questions are in the movie, Everything about this movie will delight and entertain chil- dren for all ages. It's fast-paced; filled with adventure, danger and love; lavishly animated with each character having a distinct personality and voice. Before I saw the movie, I read a review done by a gentleman for a popular magazine. He wamed parents not to be hyped by the slickness of the movie because it really contains no educational value. I strongly disagree. This movie teaches about dangers of greed and evil and the joy of love and good- ness and helping your fellow man. Even young children will be able to perceive this lesson. (Who, anyway, ever made it a law that everything a child sees has to be educational. Can't something just be fun?) In my house this movie get 3 yes votes. My children and I give it a 10. fons i pote re ag 824-3418 pers Air line ticketing and all __ hotels world wide Joe Mykietyn (Agent) P.O. Box 925 The Laprade Travel Shop Ltd.
