Ministry Ministére () of des Transportation Transports Ontario Tre tt JL kur woh 'emu. =. . ay esis SET a os oe one" ( Ministry of Community and Social Services = Managing Social Services in the Rural Thunder Bay district: A Challenge for the Future Appointment to District Advisory Committees Request for Submissions An invitation is extended to the citizens of the rural Thunder Bay District by letter, either.their own name.or names of. others (with their consent) to be considered for nomination to serve on one of two seven member District Advisory Committees. The role of the Advisory Committees is to assist the Thunder Bay District Office of the Ministry of Community and Social Services in reviewing the existing social services for children and families, and recommend- ing potential alternatives for efficient and effective service deliv- ery. The committees will be composed of individuals form different sectors such as consumers, parents and municipalities. The indi- viduals, however, should expect to represent their own communi- ties as individuals, and not necessarily as employees of any orga- nization. It is anticipated that staff from agencies currently provid- ing services will also be included as potential members of the committees. Qualifications The persons nominated should have an active interest in improv- ing services for children and families in the rural Thunder Bay District. They should be knowledgeable about children's services and relevant issues associated with the delivery of services. They should also be willing to seek opinions from their own communi- ties in order to effectively represent community interests in the committee's work. The nominated individuals should be willing to volunteer about six working days during a nine month period. The meetings will be held in different communities in rural Thunder Bay District. The actual food and travel expenses will be reim- bursed . Role The role of the committees is to: *review current children's services in the rural district of Thunder Bay *explore potential alternatives for effective service delivery *advise the Ministry of several options for improved co-ordination and delivery of current services with clear vision, efficiency and accountability mechanisms. Duration The committee will be task focused and time limited in its nature. The committee will probably meet for one day meetings, about once in six to eight weeks, over a period of eight to nine months. Initially the Ministry will take the lead role in establishing and con- ducting the meeting. The committee list will be finalized by the District Office of the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
