Daniel Hamilton suggested more flowers be planted in the Plaza and in front of the Recreation Centre between the A&W and The Library. He also volunteered the students for planting trees at the beach in front of the burn area. He also said the student would like to raise funds to help improve the fountain. Daniel Fisher expressed the students' concern about the State of some of the yards of home owners in town and asked the Council about enforcement of the property standards by-law. Pam Gervais suggested that there be more than one community clean-up day and informed Council of the students' idea for an Adopt-a- Lot project. Under this program individuals would be encouraged to adopt a piece of land in town and take on the responsibility for keeping it clean. Gervais said that a small sign could be placed in these areas indicating who is responsible for them. The sign, she said, would be a privilege given only to those who maintained their lot. Long finished the presentation by thanking the Council. "As people of the future, we hope you will take action on some of our ideas," she said. In an interview with the News, Long and Gervais said the class became involved after watching a movie on Earth Day. They went through a brainstorming process to come up with their ideas for taking action on the environment. They stressed their desire and willingness to become involved in implementing some of their ideas. "We really want to change this world and make it a better place, " Long said.
