Page 10, News, Tuesday, January 1, 1991 r r ntle tim Carolyn's Critique Carebears' Adventure in Wonderland "G" Rating: O poor......... 10 excel- lent In their own unique style, the Carebears tell the story of Alice in Wonderland. In their version, the white rabbit (a cousin of Swift-heart Rabbit) is looking for a girl who looks just like the princess. Alice is that girl. She is shy, quiet, and doesn't think she is good at anything. The rab- bit and the Carebears convince her to go to Wonderland. The Queen must pass on her crown to her daughter or the monarchy will fall to the evil wizard. The Wizard has kid- napped the princess and now all of Wonderland is in danger. Alice doesn't think she can help, but she is willing to try. year. Once she steps through the look- ing glass, she enters a world of beauty, strangeness and danger. The Wizard tries to stop her from reaching the place, but he is unsuccessful. With the Queen's knowledge, Alice masquerades as the princess while the Care-bears try to rescue the real one from the Jaborwalky. This wonderful movie is both entertaining and educational. (Alice learns that the important things in life are love, caring and ~ trying.) Ina world where chil- dren are constantly bombarded through the T.V. (and other sources) with stories of violence, greed and destruction, this movie provides a gentle time out. Children are shown that if you care enough, you can accomplish anything. Believe in yourself and in others and they will believe in you. I give ita 10. My favorite place, but also the only quiet place in the house right now, with the twins upstairs decking not the hall, but each other over the ownership of a new T-shirt. My wife Em's solitary New Year's resolution was, so help me, a diet that will let her fit into her wasp-waisted wedding dress again. From the sounds coming from our bedroom, it sounds like she's got a few pounds to go. To top off the day, we had some of Em's cousins over to eat left- over turkey - again. Em called it 'risotto' this time and gave me ' The Look when I referred to it as the last resort-o. : They stayed a bit longer than we would have liked, and in my mind I was putting down a trail of turkey bits to lead them to their car when they finally got up and left. Even Guildwood, our 10-year- old tomcat, is out of sorts. He's eaten too much turkey. and had a few run-ins with the tinsel, and I can't tell you how many times I've seen him walking around, sides heaving like an accordion, with a piece of it hanging from his mouth. Guildwood has a somewhat delicate digestion. Anyway, I'm down here mak- Happy Belated 16th birthday to A em a Love all the family ing my plans, getting my bear- ings on 1991. Today I felt a swoosh of damed cold air - just from the mail slot opening as the latest sheaf of yuletide bills fell through the front door. And I remembered something that I'd read somewhere from the Hydro. It said if you put together all the cracks and leaks in a typical Canadian home, you'd end up with a hole in the wall the size of a window. Think about that on this cold January day, and maybe you can guess what my New Year's resolution is. I'm going to save myself some money by caulking and weather- Stripping up a storm in this house. I'm going to start in the attic and I figure if I take my time, the twins will be in college, Em will be wasp-waisted and the cat's digestion will be much im- proved by the time I'm done.
