(OY OX 1S -_ -- a ee i ae ; THE -MECAUSLAND WUOKDLTIAL Peter Pan classic for young and old Carolyn's Critique PETER PAN "G" Rating: 1 poor.........10 excellent This wonderful film, based on Sir James M. Barrie's play, is finally out on video. Now all par- ents, grandparents and other assorted adults can share all the wonder and spirit of adventure' with their favourite little ones. This movie is a Disney classic that has been around for a long time. There may, however, still be some people out there who don't know what it is all about. Let me begin by saying one of the main character' is Peter Pan; 'a fun-loving, game-playing, adven- ture-seeking boy. He is the leader of a group called The Lost Boys. They all live in Neverland, an enchanted paradise where no one ever grows up. The Lost Boys want a mother to read them bedtime stories so Hydro rebates on Ontario Hydro will be provide rebates on energy efficient out- door timers for car engine block heaters, Ontario Hydro President and CEO Robert Franklin announced recently. The average engine block heater consumes 500 watts and if left to run for ten hours requires energy produced by burning seven and half pounds of coal, Franklin told members of the Canadian Electrical Association. A million cars using their block heaters all winter requires 375,000 tons of coal. Franklin pointed out that the block heater timer is only one Peter searches for just the right person. He finds it in Mary one of the few people who believes completely in Peter Pan. She knows in her heart that he is a real boy and not just " a bunch of silly poppycock " as her father says. With a little help from Pixie dust, Peter shows Mary and her two brothers, John and Micheal, how to fly. The 3 children join Peter on one adventure after another. They hunt for wild animals, visit mermaids, fight pirates, rescue an Indian princess, become honorary braves, and fight some more pirates. (Just as we all did when we were children.) The villan of this movie is Captain Hook, a mean and revenge-seeking pirate. Once before, in battle, Peter Pan cut off example of technology that is available now to be easily adapt- ed to help consumers use electric- ity more efficiently. Details of the timer rebate pro- gram will be announced at a later date. Recently Hydro offered a $5 rebate on energy efficient light bulbs which are being sold through a supermarket chain. The entire shipment of 20,000 sold out within a few days, and a his hand and fed it to a crocodile who decided he liked the taste. Now he follows Hook around hoping for another morsel. Fortunately, for Hook, the crocodile swallowed an alarm' clock and thus warns Hook of his approach. Since then, Hook has tried to find Peter Pan's Hideout so he can do away with him. I won't give away the ending, but just remember, this is a Disney movie. This is a movie that can be enjoyed by all, but parents, you might want to explain to smaller children the difference between real life and cartoons. Fighting with swords and guns is not the silly adventure shown here and cutting someone's hand off is just not very nice. I give Peter Pan a 10. block heaters second shipment is selling fast. During his speech to CEA members, Franklin called for a greater partnership between utili- ties and governments to encour- age more efficient use of electric- ity. Franklin noted that while gov- ernment regulation is one possible method of enforcing energy efficiency, educating the consumer to the resulting envi- ronmental, economic and social benefits remains the crucial task. 1990. in Appreciation We wish to express our sincere apprecia- tion to the local Darts Association Co- he Royal Canadian Legion, ¢ the benefit tournament held in Marty s honour on November 3, sponsored by t Schreiber for Our Grateful Thanks to the organiz- =8 ers and to all who helped in any way. to the business firms who donated prizes, donations, and music for the occasion.
