Page 3, News, Tuesday, October 2, 1990- New Pastor for Terrace Assembly By Angie Saunders The News The Terrace Bay Gospel Assembly has a new Pastor. Dave Tigani, came to Terrace Bay with his family at the end of July to start his term at the church. Along with him came his wife Karen and his two kids Kimberley- 12, and Adam- 9. They moved from Grimsby, which is between Hamilton and St. Catherines where Dave spent two years assisting in a church. "Over the last 14 years, my brother-in-laws would come up and go on canoe trips. I've always like the north but I'd never been this far north before," said Pastor Dave. By the sounds of things the family likes Terrace Bay. "They (Kimberley and Adam) weren't sure at first, but they real- ly like school and the kids are nice." Dave found the local people to be very friendly. "You get the feeling people know you're new. In some towns people are stand-offish. Here you can approach people." PET TALK... Alice says make that new puppy feel safe & secure by Alice Scott The exciting time has arrived. Today you will be bringing the new puppy home, or perhaps, an older dog. It may be adopted, from a friend, brought from a breeder or adopted from an animal shelter. But no matter where he comes from, he has been removed from his litter mates and familiar sur- roundings and may feel lonely. For the first two weeks it is important that all the family members make the puppy feel safe and secure. It is also time to begin house training your puppy. If you are exercising the puppy on a leash, be prepared for some resistance. The more frequently it wears the collar and leash, the sooner it will accept the routine. It is important to avoid contact with strange or stray dogs so the puppy isn't exposed to a conta- gious illness before it's vaccina- tions are complete. It is a good idea though, to Mr. & Mrs Mel Metcalf are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter Pamela Louise to Martin Nikolai, son of Mr. & Mrs. Esko Saranpaa. The wedding took place August 25th, 1990 in the Community Church, Terrace Bay. The newly weds are residing in Sarnia , Ontario. allow your puppy to get to know other friendly, healthy dogs. Dogs need to relate to other dogs. Otherwise, they tend to be shy or aggressive. They also benefit from contact with other people. Studies have shown that daily petting, and socializing, especial- ly from 4-12 weeks of age is important in developing the pup- py's proper socialization habits. When it's time for the puppy to rest, an enclosed crate is the best possible place for him. It should be large enough to provide comfort in standing or sleeping. When confinement isn't neces- sary, an open door will encourage the puppy to enter and leave his sleeping area and therefore devel- op a sense of security. At nightime, a tired puppy will fall asleep easily. It should be given it's last exercise just before bedtime. Some puppies may cry in protest at being left alone the first night, but if ignored they usually quiet down. A radio, turned on low or a ticking clock may sooth the lonesome puppy. The Tigani family has spent a lot of time fixing up their house (parsonage) since they've moved. Dave mentioned they were kept quite busy. Dave has been out fishing and hunting a few times around Terrace Bay. "I really enjoy outdoor activi- ties. I've been out fishing about four times. I just like to go out to relax. I'm looking forward to next year." I asked Dave if the family had had any strange experiences since they had moved and he came up with this: "My wife Karen often. talked about berries. I told her to sing or talk to herself because there are bears. She and her friends went up the KC road to pick berries. Her friend was picking berries and heard a noise but thought it was her husband talking to her. When she looked up she saw a | bear about 30 feet away. She learned to keep looking up once in a while when berry picking." The Terrace Bay Gospel Assembly, in which Dave is the Pastor, is affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. ' "In Grimsby, you couldn't plan outdoor activities," said Tigani, "We'll have to get used to the snow again."
