On Friday, August 11th a sig- nificant discovery was made by Minnova's surface exploration team. At the Pic Lake Zone location, about two kilometres southwest of the Winston headframe, the discovery of massive sulphides was found. Drill WL67 intersected 13.4 meters true thickness (17.5 hori- zontal thickness) of sulphides at an average grade of 2.6% copper, 25.0% zinc, 101.6 g/t silver and 0.4 g/t gold. This intersection occurs at a vertical depth of 1050 below the surface. Prior to this date, drill inter- sections were consistently less than 2 m wide and, therefore, the zone was not economic. The Minnova mine is 740 metres deep at the bottom of the shaft. The sulphides at the mine are: 1% copper and 16% zinc. ~ possible expansion ifore deposit is large enough Mine Manager Tom Dickson explained that the existing mine would be in operation until approximately 1998, but if dis- covered ore deposit is big enough, it could keep them there longer. - "The biggest emphasis is to establish how much we have there so we can methodically bring it into production," said Dickson. - Depending on the amount of ore, if there is over two or three million tonnes, Minnova might expand their facilities to accom- - modate the new site possibly con- structing a new head frame. "It depends on the amount of ore. If it is smaller than two or three million we will develop an extension of what we're doing now. If it is larger (ore deposit) there will be an expansion of facilities." At the Pick Lake zone both width and grade are every bit as good, or better, than anything in the Winston Lake deposit. An additional 12 diamond drill holes . into the zone are planned between now and the end of November in order to evaluate its potential, Pre-production development. "We just want to inform peo- ple that it's encouraging we've found something."
