_Page 13, News, Tuesday, May 22, 1990 St. Martin's Speaking Presentations On Wednesday, May 2nd as part of our Education Week Activities, the students of St. Martin's School took part in an Oral Speaking Presentation. All of the students from grade one to eight wrote speeches and present- ed them to their prospective classes. However, several talented youngsters were asked to present their speeches to the entire school and a host of parents who attend- ed. These students included: Grade 1- Karli Koshowski- Frogs, Kristine Koshowski- Butterflies; Grade 2- Matthew Paradis- Sharks, Olin Penna- I want to be a Plumber; Grade 3- Shawn Baxter- Pollution; Grade 4- Christy Sitko- Being the youngest in the family, Lisa Prusky- The Pope; Grade 5- Scott McDonald- My nephew Ben, Scott McDougall- Doing a project, Vince Speziale- Greening up; Grade 6- Curtis Sitko- Undersea Experience; Grade 7- Lisa Rochon- Abortion; Grade 8- Allyson Withers- Saving the Earth, Lisa Marie Cornect- Types of energy; Grades 1-4 Francais- Eli Dolynchuk- Sharks, Justin Robitaille- The Five Senses; Grades 5-8 Francais- Marc Bilodeau- Bilingualism, Michelle Vachon- Cocaine and Drugs. We have included two of these presentations for your enjoyment: Sharks By Matthew Paradis Do you like sharks? I do. They are very neat. Did you know millions of millions of years ago there were sharks too. Today there are more than three hundred kinds of sharks. The dwarf shark is smaller than your hand. The biggest shark is the whale shark. The whale shark has three thousand teeth and it eats tiny shrimp and fish. The blue sharks are very good hunters. They can pick up the smell of blood from a very far distance. The blue sharks take big chunks of off their food. Ifa shark gets hurt a shark will eat it. Why do blue sharks follow ships and eat garbage from the ships? Blue sharks follow ships because of the noises from the ship and eat garbage from the ship. The most dangerous shark of CWL Women's League The regular meeting of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Women's League was held Monday, May 14th. The rosary intentions were offered for all members for a safe and happy summer. Linda read the scripture followed by a reflec- tion, a poem for Mother's Day titled "Mother I Remember'. Each member was given the poem as a keepsake. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Marilyn and the treasurer's report by Diane. Kathleen read the correspon- dence, a short not from member Jean Sinotte was read. Linda reported on First Holy Communion held on Mother's Day at the 10 a.m. mass. Each child was presented with a prayer book from the R]Prayer Group and a rosary from the Catholic Women's League. A social was held in the Parish Hall afterwards for the children, family, and friends. Lillian reported for Christian Family Life and asked that a Special Mass be offered for The Protection of the Unborn during this month of May. In Luigina's absence, Diane gave her report on the successful Mother's Day Tea held on Sunday, May 6. The proceeds for this tea are for Mother Theresa's Mission. The lucky winner of the door prize was Margaret Phillips. Luigina also reported we have 50 members to date and also more cookbooks are on order. Kathleen gave her report on the 37th Annual Convention held in Thunder Bay on May 8- 10th. At the convention all Councils were urged to have a Mass of Thanksgiving on June 17th, the 70th anniversary of the league. Remember deceased members; review the history of the league and make members aware of the league's activities. The 1991 Convention will be held at St. Louis Parish in Keewatin. Linda gave a report on the Tuesday afternoon workshop; Multi-cultural Rights. Vickie gave her report on the Wednesday morning session; The Best Way to Answer Call to our . Mission. A teacher, a singer and a young homemaker spoke. The Rainy River contest won the banner contest. The 70th_Anniversary Pancake Brunch on June 17 will be held after 10 a.m. mass. Vickie Boucher has filled the vacancy for 2nd Vice President. At the close of the meeting our guest speaker was Gloria Harris, who showed a short meeting on Abuse, and spoke on violence against women. Two members of the panel; Kathy Smith and Jeanine Pineau accompanied Gloria. Following this discussion lunch was served by Mary and Giselle. them all is the great white shark. Like all sharks the great white never stops swim- ming, because most fish have air balloons in them so when fish stop swimming they float but when a shark stops swimming it will sink and die. There are many things we don't know about sharks for instance how long sharks live. Or how much food a shark has to eat to stay alive. But we do know that sharks are here to stay. Being the Youngest in the Family By Christy Sitko Have you ever had something that really bugs you but there's nothing you can do about it? Well I do, it's being the youngest in the family. When you're the youngest in the family and you have an older brother it gets serious. Your the target of all his insults and when he really bugs me its sometimes hard not to lose my cool. When he feels like wrestling I'm always his victim whether I like it or not and I just never seem to win, One good thing is when I've had as much as I can take of him all Lhave to do is yell my favorite word MOM and that usually takes care of him for a while. The biggest advantage of all is when it comes to disciplining me my parents go easy because I'm the youngest in the family.
