A UNION FOR c? \) THE FUTURE *C.P.U. organizers in Terrace Bay have heard concerns from U.P.I.U. members that our organization is strike happy. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH Hundreds of contracts are negotiated every year without strikes. However when THE MEMBERSHIP in a particular locale are not satisfied with a company offer; strike action may be contemplated. The C.P.U. constitution and strike policy clearly lay out the procedure, and are even more demanding than what the law requires. Section 5 of the strike policy confirms that consent to strike for a C.P.U. local must be secured by a TWO THIRDS MAJORITY vote of the members present and voting by secret ballot at a well advertised regular or special meeting. : *We have also been approached regarding our position on "Team Concept" or "Quality of Worklife" programs including Assista Craft | and Job Integration. The C.P.U. totally opposes the introduction of such "Americanizea" programs. We have recently kicked off education courses now being taught in locations across Canada to our local officers. Experience has shown these programs do not result in more job security etc., in fact they are a subtle attack on organized work places which over the long term result in complete destruction of the , union. GET THE FACTS You can contact C.P.U. organizers at the Terrace Bay Red Dog Inn. ie See : pte National Representative GZ MYA Canadian Paperworkers Union -- Page 3, News, Tuesday, April 17;1990 ~~
