Mrs. Helen Wallace, Past President, installed Jack Handel as 1st Vice-President following which he presided for the meeting, which opened with a minute's silence in respect to the memory of Mrs. Emma Driscoll and Mrs. Mary Schelling who had passed away recently. Minutes of the previous meet- ings were read by the secretary, Helen Jartus, and approved as read. Treasurer's reports and bingo reports were given by Pat Guina and approved. 2 winners - Beth McAdam and Mrs. Larivee. Marg McKenna gave the report for the Sick and Visiting and reported sending several Sympathy cards and get well cards to members and read sever- al "thank you" notes. Jack Handel reported on the various activities planned by the Recreation Committee for Carnival Week. The Chimo Club will host a Soup and Sandwich Luncheon on Wednesday, February 28th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Convenor is Leona Fournier with club members assisting. Price of the luncheon is $3.00 per serving, and is open to public. The Chimo Club will also be open for a Games Night on Thursday, March 1st.-Admission $5.00 per player, and Cribbage will be in charge of Jack Handel. Bridge will be convened by Pat Guina. The Northwest Senior Games will be held in Thunder Bay from June 11th to 13th, 1990. Further information will be reported when received. West Limits easterly 16.5 kilometres to about Mill Road in Terrace Bay. The purpose of this study is to identify improvements to Highway 17 within the limits of the project to eliminate frost heaves and pavement distortions, improve the riding quality of the driving surface and reha- bilitate the shoulders. Also included in the study is the examination of alternative means to improve the level of traffic service and safety on the approximately 3.5 kilometre section of Highway 17 from Schreiber easterly to about the CP overhead bridge. An information centre will be held to permit the public to examine preliminary alternatives for improving this section of Highway 17 being considered by MTO including preliminary altcrnative revisions to the alignment of Highway 17 between Schreiber and the CP Rail overhead bridge and to provide input to the planning process. All interested persons are invited to attend the public information centre which will be held: RECREATION CENTRE SCHREIBER WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 21, 1990 2:00 p.m. TO 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. TO 8:00 p.m. This study will follow a Class Environmental Assessment process approved for highway projects of this type. Upon completion of the Study, an Environmental Study Report will be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and will be available for public viewing. A further public notice will be published a: that time. The MTO has retained the consulting firm of Totten Sims Hubicki Associates to assist with this Study. You are encouraged to contact the Consultant or MTO staff at any time if you have questions or con- cerns about this project. If you feel, after consulting with MTO staff, that serious environmental concems remain unresolved, it i your right to request the project be subject to the formal Environmental Assessment Review and Approved process, possibly including a for- mal Public Hearing. Terrace Bay Schreiber to study joint Economic Development Office The communities of Terrace Bay and Schreiber will receive an $18,750 provincial grant to look into the possibility of operating a joint economic development office, Northern Development Minister Rene Fontaine has announced... This is the first step for communities organizing to diver- sify their economy and looking to attract new business ventures," Fontaine said. The study will determine how a permanent economic develop- ment office coul' be established to realize the arc.:'s devclopment potential. Terrace Bay and Schreiber are each contributing $3,100 to the $25,000 study, expected to be completed by April.
