After receiving a letter from a number of residents in the Walker Lake area asking for the strects in the area to be named, council decided to proceed with the idea. Town Engineer John Este will draw up a diagram of the roads in question and at some point in the near future, council will give names to the streets in question and numbers to the lots and hous- es on these streets. The Township of Schreiber is still looking for people to work as crossing guards. The hours of work are from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., 11:30 4.m. to 12 noon and 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Applicants should be 18 years of age or older. Council also passed a By-Law to prohibit the discharge of firearms in the Township of Schreiber. The discharge of guns, or other firearms of any type is pro- hibited in the township as described in detail in the by-law. Any pcrson convicted of breaking this by-law could be subject to a fine of up to $1,000 and will be responsible to pay any additional costs. Copics of the by-law and the areas in question can be obtained at the Schreiber Municipal Office. Before the meeting ended Reeve Mike Cosgrove asked the » councillors to give their views on the VIA Rail cutbacks. Ed Borutski said although it will be difficult to reinstate routes that have been cut, he believes Schreiber council should do something to prevent any further cuts. Ron McBride said he finds it hard to understand why the north- ern route (the Continental) is being kept. McBride also said he doesn't like the idea of Greyhound having a monopoly in Terrace council news By Dave Chmara Terrace Bay council addressed the Disability Action Group's con- cerns about motorized vehicles not being allowed on the highway ' path. Council decided to allow motorized wheelchairs to use the path and is also looking at the problem of the curbs, which make it difficult, if not impossible, for wheelchairs to get from the road onto the pathway. The Township of Terrace Bay has applied to the Ministry of Natural Resources to purchase the waterfront property. The cost will be $250 but the paperwork to transfer the property will take from six to nine months. "Every major country in-the world is increasing rail service, Instead of promoting and improving the service, they're (the Canadian government) cut- ting back." " Quinto believes the cuts are a detriment to thé North. "If they were doing something clse to improve the transportation system I might understand," said Quinton. "It costs more to fly from here to Toronto than to Europe. During the last election the Prime Minister said he'd improve rail service and now he's making cuts." KNAUFF: Evelyn Veronica Knauff formerly of Terrace Bay, Ontario, passed away at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta on October 9, 1989 at the age of 70 years. Evelyn is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Lois Knauff of Kamloops, B.C.; one daughter Kit Knauff of Calgary; one step-daughter Bettylou Hahn of Cadilac, Michigan; three grandchildren, Stephen Knauff, Michael Knauff, Vallie Ginn and two great grandchildren. Evelyn is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Helen Dodd, Ray and Doris Dodd, Doug and Shirley Dodd and her aunt Evelyn, all of Thunder Bay, Ontario; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
