Wednesday, October 11, 1989 TERRACE BAY/SCHREIBER NEWS Doctors take up practices in Terrace Bay, Schreiber By Dave Chmara Recently, two new doctors have taken up practices in both Schreiber and Terrace Bay. On July 24, Dr. Amir Geran opened his office at the Schreiber Medical Clinic and, September 5 saw Dr. Mark Woldnik take up private practice at McCausland Hospital. In order to save the two doc- tors the hassle of repeatedly being asked the question every new doctor coming into town is faced with - "How long do you plan to stay?" - the News posed the ques- tion to the two doctors. Dr. Woldnik said he plans to stay in practice in Terrace Bay for a few years and possibly longer. Dr. Geran said his plans are to stay for about one-year and at that point in time he'll decide if he will stay longer than that. Both Geran and Woldnik decided to take up practice here because they were attracted to the area. Geran, who had been working in Sault Ste. Marie prior to com- ing here said, "I drove through the area and was impressed. When I heard there was a vacan- 'ae D9 7SIZ cy, I applied." Unlike Geran, who had only passed through before becoming a resident, Woldnik had lived here on a couple of occasions. The first stay was during the summer about 15 years ago when Woldnik was then working for CP Rail. Even at that point he thought this was the nicest area on the North Shore, and in 1986, he worked at McCausland as a student in the summer. Woldnik has a wife, Kathryn, who is a registered nurse, and an cight-month old son, Gregory. Both he and his wife come from small towns so they are used to the kind of lifestyle provided. The Woldniks enjoy cross- country skiing, hiking and fish- ing. He said they're outdoor peo- ple and came up here to-enjoy the small town life. Geran is single and used the word "independent" to describe his lifestyle. He too enjoys the outdoors and likes to camp, go on picnics and occasionally fish. "If you come to a small town expecting the amenities of a large city you'll be disappointed," Geran said. I. "People don't realize what they've got here," said Woldnik. "The hospital is second to none" and has a good staff, said Woldnik. He noted the staff hasn't changed very much since he last worked there in 1986. "The stability (of the person- nel) adds to the quality of the hospital," he said.
