Games took place in the Tween and Belle divisions. In the Tween Bronze medal game, Nakina defeated Terrace Bay 10-5. In the Belle Bronze medal game, Geraldton beat Terrace Bay 6-3. Provincial Court Provincial Court, Criminal Division, was held Wednesday, April 5, 1989 with Judge S. Sargent presiding and the Crown Attorney was Peter Hurrell. Three arrest warrants for Kenneth Churney, James McKenzie and Richard Evoy were issued by Judge Sargent for failing to appear at court. Christopher Glynn of Schreiber, pled guilty to an impaired driving charge and was given a $600 fine along with the Winnie's By Winnie Campbell The Ladies Auxiliary Branch 109 held their monthly meeting with 2nd Vice-President Earline Johnson presiding. Charlotte Miller gave the sec- retary's report followed by the treasurer's report by Rena Ross. The reports of various com- mittees were given. The Auxiliary will be catering to a Chimo Supper on April 17. The annual penny auction will be held on May 7. Members are asked to bring their prizes to the Legion. The Ladies Auxiliary 109 Birthday Party will be held on May 27. one year licence suspension. Denis Jean of Terrace Bay pled guilty to a Terrace Bay Police charge of Break and Enter. He was given a $1,000 fine, placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay resti- tution of $20 to the Aguasabon - Golf Club. Noelle Person and Andre Salesse pled guilty to Obstructing a Police Officer in the execution of his duty. They were given an absolute discharge. Scribbles The Auxiliary meets on the first Tuesday of the month. It is hoped more members will Start attending. Campbell have returned from Duluth. Frederick Speer of Terrace Bay pled guilty to Possession of a Narcotic charge. He was given an absolute discharge. John Roy of Terrace Bay pled guilty to a Terrace Bay Police charge of Possession of Stolen Property. He was given an abso- lute discharge. Next Criminal Court is May 3, 1989. Unless indicated the above charges are Ontario Provincial Police. a oe TOWNSHIP OF SCHREIBER Emergency Measures Information Reeve and Council Township of Schreiber The Township of Schreiber, will be distributing a plastic telephone book cover, which carries important information on the back page. The information printed on the back of the cover, and in the small red booklet included in the cover fly leaf, applies to any Emergency situation that may arise in the Township of Schreiber. The information particularly applies to situations that may, require the evacuation of all parts of the Township. The covers will be distributed to all box holders and persons utilizing the general delivery system. Any person failing to receive a cover, may obtain one at the Municipal Office. All citizens are requested to familiarize themselves with the Emergency Procedures, and the information contained in the material. = Terrace Bay Council News By Connie Sodaro The Terrace Bay Town council "held its bi-wéekly meeting on March 28, 1989. The meeting started with a demonstration of the Lifeline System presented by Elaine Mannisto. Mannisto showed two short videos that explained how Lifeline operates and how it can save lives. The other video showed anoth- er system that Lifeline offers which is the voice system. The voice system is basically the same as the non-voice system but enables the user to communicate up to 200 feet away from the unit. A total of $35,000 is required to implement the Lifeline system. To date, just over $6,000 has been raised, $5,000 of which was a donation from the Terrace Bay Royal Canadian Legion. Organizers are hoping the sys- tem will be operational by this September. Council decided to waive the arena rental fee for the Terrace Bay - Schreiber Lions Club for the Auction and Flea Market which will be held May 12 and 1s A letter of protest will be sent to the Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Rene Fontaine, regarding the fare increases recently adopted by NorOntair. A one way trip to Thunder Bay now costs $114, an increase of 63 per cent. A trip from Terrace Bay to Sault Ste. Marie increased from $89 to $149, an increase of 67 per cent. Council has decided to send eight firefighters from Terrace Bay to Marathon for a "Hazardous Materials Awareness Course" being held from April 7 to 9. The Municipality will pay wages, travel, accommodations and meals for the acting Fire Chief, Rolly MoQuin. The other seven firefighters will have their travel, accommodations and meals, but not wages, paid for by the municipality. Council accepted a grant from the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines in the amount of $25,875 for the prepa- ration of a Tourism Development Strategy.
