Terry won the all expense paid trip for two as part of a computer promotion campaign by Radio Shack. Terry explained Canada is divided into seven categories based on population and size of towns. He sold the most computers in his category, 54 of them, from September to December. He was lucky in a way because Minnova had.a computer deal going with its employees. Terry said Minnova employees accounted for the majority of computers bought dur- ing that time. Even as The News spoke with Terry, Minnova called him up and ordered another computer. Terry was selling the Tandy 1000 TX, a computer which he says can be used for anything from playing games to running a business, which he does on his own computer. He said the com- puters are IBM compatible and can be upgraded without too much expense. Terry ran out of the 1000 TX so is now giving deals on the Tandy 1000 TL, the next computer up the line. Templer was on hand and presented a report covering the yearly activities of the Schreiber OPP detachment. He reported that there were 632 occurances in 1988 compared to 481 in 1987. Overall, there was an occurance cleared rate of 72 per cent by the detachment, up by 16 per cent over the previous year. This compares favorably with a provincial average of 54 per cent. Sgt. Templer thanked council for there support over the year, par- ticularly for the answering machine now installed in the OPP detach- ment office in Schreiber. Councillor Borutski, in his inau- gural meeting comments, men- tioned that sidewalk repair should be done in 1989, plus the construc- tion/extension of new and existing sidewalks. Fire Chief Doig outlined infor- mation received recently concerning the possibility of the Township receiving additional funding to offset the capital cost of the Emergency Response Vehicle. Changes in administrative rules of the Solicitor General will allow the Townships of Marathon, Manitouwadge, Terrace Bay, and Schreiber to obtain funding as an area. An application will be made for additional funds for Schreiber with the full support of council. Council also supported a motion from the township of Morley which calls for the the freedom of doctors from outside the province of Ontario to practice in this province. Schreiber is looking into the possibility of having trains no longer blowing their whistles at the west end crossing. The town. clerk will be consulting the town solici- tor to determine if this would create a liability to the township in any way before proceeding with the proposal. Conceming snow removal, the town will be making inquiries con- cerning the cost of renting a large loader for snow removal purposes. As well, truck number 1 and 2 and the 3/4 ton pickup will be put up for sale. JAMES FIGLIOMENI Executor by his solicitors ZAITZEFF - CANCADE Barristers and Solicitors P.O. Box 3536 233 S. Court Street Thunder Bay, Ontario HELP US MAKE WINTER SAFE FOR EVERYONE Since last July, construction has been proceeding on the Terrace Bay mill's $25 million secondary treatment plant, the latest project in our ongoing program of environmental improvements. - As many of you know, this construction site is east of the mill and includes lands surrounding the excavation. In the interest of public safety, we are asking everyone to please avoid this area because snow already has or soon will hide some of the structures. Because they cannot be seen, these structures are dangerous obstacles or hazards to persons and vehicles. That's why we have posted signs warning that the area is not open to and should not be used by the public for recreation _ (such as with snowmobiles or ATVs) or for any other purpose. Please inform your children and visitors of the importance of this restriction. Help us make this a safe and happy winter season for everyone!
