Endorsement for air brakes ends Dec. 31 Ontario Transportation Minister Ed Fulton is reminding all drivers requiring a "Z" Air Brake Endorsement on their driver's licence, that the "Grandfather" con- version period will end December ai: To apply, Ontario drivers may pick up an Air Brake Endorsement Application Form at any Ministry Driver Examination Centre, Licence Issuing Office or weigh scale location throughout the province. If employed, a driver completes the form, indicating their experi- ence and has it signed by the employer. If self-employed, a driv- er who has experience with air brake equipped vehicles completes the application form and takes it to a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths for signature and then returns it to the Ministry. Self- addressed envelopes are provided for the driver's convenience. "I suggest that all Ontario drivers who feel they are qualified to operate air brake equipped vehi- cles take advantage of the grandfa- ther conversion period before the end of December," said Fulton. After December 31, 1988, all drivers requiring the "Z" Air Brake Endorsement on their licence may do so, only by doing one of the fol- lowing: - successfully completing the Ministry's two-part test which includes a written test in air brake system knowledge and a practical test with an air brake equipped vehicle. - successfully completing a 10- hour Community College or Ontario Safety League Air Brake Course. - training and testing by the company they work for, provided the company is a member of Ontario's Driver Certification Program and has "Z" authority. Effective May 1, 1989 any driv- er licensed in Ontario must have an Air Brake "Z" Endorsement to operate vehicles equipped with air brakes. This does not apply to a driver licensed in another jurisdiction while using Ontario's highways, provided the driver is legally licensed by that jurisdiction to operate such vehicles. Prior to setting it up in a secure tip-resistant stand with a provision for holding water, place a fresh cut on the trunk at least one inch/2.5 cm from the original cut. If a synthetic tree is your choice take care to ensure any safety warnings are observed, especially those concerning the use of lights.
