Spadoni rink takes spiel THE FORTIETH ANNUAL SCHREIBER LADIES' Curling Bonspiel took place from January 15th to January 17th, with the Barb Spadoni Rink emerging the winner over the Betty Huard Rink. In the 'B' event, the Judy Davis Rink defeated the Eva Gordon Rink. ; Audrey Morgan captured the 'C' event defeating the Mona Donaldson foursome. Of special interest- during Friday night play,the Terrace Bay Rink of Mona Donaldson, Dot Dakin, Jayne Santerre and Paula Sitko, scored an eight-ender. This may possibly be the first one scored during a bonspiel in the history of the Schreiber Curling Club. During the banquet Saturday, the team was presented with com- memorative trophies to mark this special happening. Bonspiel Chairperson Joyce Berthelot and her committee would like to thank all the teams that participated in the 40th spiel. Please note- the Schreiber Men's Bonspiel, scheduled for February 12th to the 14th, and the mixed Minnie McCuaig, slated for March 16th to the 20th, are now accepting registrations. Fallen Rock's first midget tournament a success FALLEN ROCK'S first invi- tational Midget Hockey Tournament turned out to be a great success on January 22, 23 and 24. Four teams participated which included the Schreiber North Stars, the Nip-Rock Rangers, the Marathon Midgets, and the host team, Filane's Falcons. The Schreiber North Stars took the championship trophy beating Nip-Rock 6 to 4 in the final game. The Nip-Rock Rangers ended up with silver medals. In the consolation final, Filane's Falcons celebrated their first win in their four-year team history beating Marathon 6 to 5. The Falcons were presented trophys for winning the consola- tion and Marathon was-also-hand-.- ed bronze medals. It was certainly a proud moment for Cosimo Filane, presi- dent and coach of FAllen Rock Minor Hockey, who said, "I final- ly won one!" MVPs of the tournament: best goalie, Jamie Lewis of Marathon; best forward, Paul Mignault of Nip-Rock; best defenceman, Aaron Lemieux from Filane's Falcons.
