The presentation, 'Starting A Small Business In Ontario' was introduced by Darlene Noble, the owner of The Strawberry Patch, whose store is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. United Nations forces fought against Communist Chinese and North Korean troops after North Korea invaded South Korea. The war ended in a truce signed by the United Nations and North Korea. A time to be proud of our men's bravery and a time to be sad about the loss of life. The Korean War was the rea- and area to entrepreneurs in that - area. Needless to say, there were many participants there with very interesting ideas, ranging from service industries related to natu- ral resources to specialty craft shops or businesses, Most of the presentation was given by Mr. Gary Angst, a busi- ness consultant with the Small Business branch of the Ontario Ministry of Trade , Industry, and Technology. Angst spoke about determin- ing the risks and rewards of set- ting up.a small business, different financial vehicles used to help pay for business, business plan- ning and structuring and business, among various topics. Mr. Harold Wilson, a business consultant from the ministry office in Thunder Bay was on hand to answer specific questions which participants may have had. : A short presentation was made by a forestry specialist of the Sudbury-based Resource Technology Centre. The centre is a venture capital company. This means this company invests in small businesses in the natural resource industry (i.e. forestry, mines). The centre also provides finan- cial support for these small busi- nesses at a competitive rate. After several years, the small business buys itself back from the compa- ny. The man, Mr. Wilson, hopes to be opening a permanent branch of the Resource Technology Centre in Thunder Bay within the next year. Several handouts and pam- phlets were given to participants, including the application for the New Ventures guaranteed loan for small businesses. Entrepreneurs can borrow up to $15,000 at a competitive rate to help get their small business off the ground. Another useful resource given to all participants was the min- istry's publication Starting A Small Business In Ontario. This seminar was sponsored by the Aguasabon Chamber of Commerce. This dedication is just one of the many planned by the Korean Veterans' Association of Thunder Bay... The aim of the association is to add the dedication of the Korean War to all cenotaphs in Canada, Secreatary of Unit 30 of the association, Frank Bryne, told the News that day. He said 83'cenotaphs have been re-dedicated in Ontario so far. The Korean Veterans' Association is a national organi- zation with 38 units across the country. It is a regional body with its , headquarters in Guelph, Ontario. Members from. Marathon, ' Schreiber, Nipigon, Kenora, and Thunder Bay make up Unit 38 of the assocation. Bryne said 518 Canadians were kllled in the Korean War. In addition to the army forces, ba & 4 KOREA ames * 0- (952 pm @ Bryne said Canada also had three destroyers off the Korean coast, a transport squadron that flew from Tucoma, Washington, to Japan with supplies. A number of Canadian pilots flew as fighter pilots in the American force, Bryne said. A real pleasure Schreiber Reeve Mike Cosgrove was on hand at the cer- emony, held on Oct. 24, and told those there that it was a real plea- sure to play a part. : He said the re-dedication was to recognize the 80,000 soldicrs President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, Dave Hamilton, addressed those at the ceremony and said he wel- comed the opportunity to partici- pate in the re-dedication.
