Golab's wife, Lori, is presently on a one-year leave of absence from the Lakehead Board of Education and is completing her Master of Education degree at Lakehead University. The Golabs have a 12 year-old son who loves football. During his time off, Golab and his son enjoy spending time pickerel fish- ing. Golab comes to Schreiber from the Lakehead Board of Education where he held the posi- tion of Assistant to the Superintendent of Education. In previous years, Golab was an educaton officer, high school department head and teacher with the Lakehead board. Golab is very interested in meeting parents and discussing their concerns about education. Director leaving The Director of Education for the Lake Superior board, Miss Margaret Twomey, will soon be leaving. Twomey has recently accepted the position of Regional Director of Education for Northwestern Ontario. She will be working out of the regional office in Thunder Bay. School renovations During early September, the Schreiber Public School under- went repairs to replace the exteri- or brick. Over the past 10 years, the frost had caused the brick to crumble. The new brick, being less porous, should last longer. The construction company, Arctic Masonry, must be com- mended for the safe manner in which they performed their tasks while the children were at school. Next year, it is anticipated that more work will be done to the ' grounds and fencing to provide the students with more activities and to improve the school's appearance. Coming events Oct. 14- Grs. 4-8 will view the play, "This can't be happening at MacDonald Hall." Oct. «23- Development Day. Intramurals To date, students have had the Professional opportunity to take part in two" intramural activities. Soccer, supervised by Mrs. Brend, will run for approximately one month. Cross-country running, super- vised by Mr. Morrill, will culmi- nate on Oct. 14 when approxi- mately 12 students will go to Marathon to compete with stu- dents from the other schools in the board. New staff Because of increasing enrol- ment, three new teachers and two teacher aides were added to the staff of Schreiber Public School this fall. Brent Stratton comes from the Whitedog Education Authority with eight years' experience. Mr. Stratton will teach French as well as Grs. 6-8 afternoon sub- jects. Miss Malashewski is our half- time Junior Kindergarten teacher.
