\ C.W.L. convention major event for all involved By Ken Lusk The 34th Annual Catholic Women's League Diocesan Con- vention was held in Terrace Bay last week and was truly a success. It also celebrated 35 years for the St. Martin Parish of the C.W.L. as a Parish Council. At the formal opening last Tuesday, Hostess President of the convention, Sharyn Legall, implored all gathered to unite during this special time. Father Campbell, host spiritual director, then address- ed those convened and said that in all his 30 years in the Diocesan, this was the first time he has hosted such a convention. Preparation for the conven- tion has "been a_ challenge- meeting after meeting after meeting," said Campbell. He praised the hard-working convention committee and wish- ed all a happy and successful convention. The Diocesan President, Joleene Kemp, said that the theme of the convention, "Our Stewardship in Church Renewal", would hopefully result in "'awareness in ourselves. Peace and joy," she told those present. Diocesan Spiritual Director Father E.T. Kennedy, who will be leaving his position as spiritual director, said he hoped the convention would assist in a push toward piety, love, and love of one another. He wished "'peace and unity" to all there. Most Reverend John O'Mara D.D., Bishop of Thunder Bay, said the convention is an occa- sion to come to know and understand sharing in the Terrace Ba Schreiber Church. He said the convention could serve as "the impetus to responsibility for renewal in the Diocesan." Next in greeting were welcomes by people from the local community. Minister Ernie Hunt, on behalf of the Community Church in Terrace Bay and St. Andrew's in Schreiber, said this was the first time he has had the pleasure of attending such a large group in the Terrace Bay area. He said the convention show- ed a great spirit "that can't be equalled." It is good to say, he said, to wish you all "best wishes and a successful convention- my bless- ing.' "It has an open pit, high grass and small brush. There are two courses. An open field and a closed bush course." The open field course will have less protection. "There is a lot more skill involved. There aren't as many places to hide," said Rogerson. Rogerson believes he and his game now have better access to the public. He is hoping to get more people from Schreiber and Rossport to play the game this year. He said a lot of people are phon- ing him about the game so for this reason Rogerson is confident of hav- ing a good season. Rogerson will officially be taking appointments starting today. Grand opening special To celebrate the opening of: his game, Rogerson is having a grand opening special. During the Victoria Day weekend, it will be half the nor- mal cost to play the game for persons who have never played it before. Rogerson will be booking teams of five but if team of 10 applies, he will take the booking. The regular price to play will pay for the first 30 rounds, one sealed tube cartridge, the pistol rental and camouflage clothing (optional). Rogerson said this year he will re- quire a $50 dollar deposit for teams of five that book. This is due to peo- ple not showing up. Rogerson said this happened last year. Rogerson will be running evening games from 6-9 p.m. during the week and anytime on the weekends. He will also take full-day bookings if people want to play that long (8-hour games). The minimum game-length is three hours long. Rogerson told the News that after a couple of weeks operating the game, he will again start the "King of the Hill" challenge for any teams wishing to be competitive. "Catch the Flag" will be the test- the team that wins three out of five games becomes "King of the Hill'. If they play another game against challengers and win, all games that team plays after that are free for Reeve Ollie Chapman, Counc. Bill Houston said it was a pleasure to attend.
