On Tuesday, May 5, the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra begins its musical tour of Nor- thwestern Ontario. During this tour, the orchestra will perform in Geraldton, Hearst, Manitouwadge, Terrace Bay and Nipigon/Red Rock. The first stop for the orchestra will be in Geraldton on May 5, where the rotary club will sponsor the 8 p.m. concert at the Geraldton Composite High School. On Wednesday, May 6, a school concert will be held at 10 a.m. at the Geraldton Composite High School. Next on the tour intinerary is Hearst, where an evening concert on Wednesday, May 6, will be presented at 8 p.m. in the Hearst High School gym. This concert is sponsored by the Arts Council of Hearst. On Thursday, May 7, 1987, the orchestra travels to Manitouwadge for an 8 p.m. concert at the Manitouwadge High School. This concert is jointly sponsored by a number of service organiza- tions in Manitouwadge. On Friday, May 8, at 10 a.m., the orchestra will perform another school concert at the Manitouwadge High School Both of these performances will be con- ducted by Joseph Lanza, concertmaster. Terrace Bay is the next stop on the tour, for a concert on Friday, May 8, at 8 p.m. to be held at the Terrace Bay High School, with Joseph Lanza, concertmaster, ccn- ducting the orchestra. This concert is sponsored by the Terrace Bay-Schreiber Concert Series. Canada Day plans underway Plans are well-underway for this year's Canada Day celebrations and following is a list of some . topics covered at the meeting on April 28. Canada Day Grant Application forms have been received and Reeve Ollie Chapman has completed it. $9,300 is being requested. Our share or revenue will be $9,100. Canada Day Brochure Freda Boucher has sold most of the blocks for the brochure and it will distributed throughout the community in early June. Parade The following organizations will be contributing to the parade: On- tario Provincial Police, McCausland Hospital, Sea Cadets, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Legion- Colour Party, Township of Terrace Bay, Library, Recreation Department, Multicultural Association, Fire Department, Bir- chwood Terrace and the Ministry of Natural Resources. (807) 343-9311 : Teen Dance Chris Joubert reported the Satur- day Night Teen Dance was not possible. The committee then sug- gested and booked Sunday night, June 28, for it. Joubert also book- ed the Stereo Club for the Canada Day Celebrations at the Golf Course on July 1. Seniors' Tournament Ernie Kettle reported the horseshoe pits at Birchwood Ter- race have been removed. Joubert suggested they could be re-installed but also said the seniors could be transferred to the Legion pits. Kids' entertainment Jean Marcella reported she has arranged to have a magician and a musician from Thunder Bay. Also, TV Ontario will be able to supply the committee with the Pokeroo costume for Saturday, June 27 only. Bingo The committee had several discussions concerning organizing a Bingo for Monday night. Freda Boucher will look into the availability of the bingo cards from Bazaar and Novelty. Dean Main will contact Chris Joubert about the possibility and feasibility of holding a bingo'in the arena. Andy Lauzon mentioned the _Legion may be able to assist. This - event would be a good fundraiser for the committee. This concert is jointly sponsored by Domtar Packaging, Red Rock, and Superior Entertainment, Nipigon. Highlights of the "Concert Pro- gramme" include Rossini's The Thieving Magpie Overture, Haydn's Symphony No. 104 'Lon- don', Sullivan's HMS Pinafore Overture, and Webber's Memory from Cats. Highlights of the 'School Con- cert Programme' include Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No. 8, Koff- man/Wilkins Swingin' Shepherd Blues, Tchaikovsky's Scene from Swan Lake (MVT I) and Williams/Burdon Star Wars Medley. The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra will arrive back in Thunder Bay late in the evening, Saturday, May 9, after what pro- mises to be a very rewarding and successful tour, bringing sym- phony music to communities in Northwestern Ontario.
