Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, December 24, 1986, page 3 New recreation director settles in The new Recreation Director, Dean Main, has been here since Nov. 24 and said that things are running well. it just takes time to settle into a new job, he said. Main was born in Kimberly, British Columbia, and has lived in Manitouwadge, Atikokan and Thunder Bay. Main lived in Manitouwadge from 1961 to 1969, Atikokan from 1969 to 1979, Thunder Bay from 1979 to 1983. and then back to Manitouwadge from 1983 to 1986. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Lakehead University in the spring of 1983. Main said that he really likes Ter- race Bay and has had: been in con- tact through a previous job. Prior to his new job, Main work- the community centre in ed at Manitouwadge handling its. pro- grams under the director there. Through the North Shore Direc- tors' Association Main has been in contact with Terrace Bay. Main said that he is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the entire recreation complex. : He okays plans and programs and is responsible for seeing they run smoothly. For example, he said, all the pro- grams that the centre offers are co- ordinated by Joan Woods, and he will give his approval. He said he mostly approves the programs and gets the staff he will need to work them. Main collaborates with Tom Falzetta, head of maintenance, and they work together to see that the centre is in top shape. The Main man The men's sauna was just recent- ly repaired by Falzetta and Ron Jen- son, a local carpenter. Main said the walls of the sauna were charred and did present a 'safe- ty factor'. The walls were replaced and a deflector shield installed. : The women's sauna will be redone soon as well, he said. The floor of the weight room also needs repairing and will be replaced with Tuflex material that withstands any damage. Heating system The recreation complex now, has its own heating system which will be operational in January, Main said. Up until now, pipes ran from Bir- chwood Terrace to heat the centre, but now it will be self-contained. "*The pipes are deteriorating," he ee said. Good staff employed during the summer- for the swimming pool, for example. Waiting for house Main said that the past director, Doug Bryson, had a good staff and he noted that the most predominant thing is that everyone at the centre works well with each other. He is presently living in a K-C apartment while looking for a house.
