Page &, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, July 16, 1986 DAG meeting held Linda Cairns, represen- ting the March_of Dimes Foundation in Thunder Bay, recently spoke to those attending the regular meeting of the Disability Action Group held at the McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay. Linda, who replaces Marion Wall, listed the many services offered by the March of Dimes and offered to assist this young organization in any way possible. She also distributed brochures from the Disabl- ed Drivers of Ontario, which listed where-to get hand controls installed, driver education, and so forth. One pertinent question to the group was concerm- ing funding on such aids as wheelchairs. This, of course, was based on needs according to income, but partial help was available and assistance in obtaining further help from other organizations as well. During the course of the meeting, Linda further of- fered many suggestions based on experiences with a Disabled Sports Group in Thunder Bay. President Rod Thompson thanked Linda for her trip to Ter- race Bay and her ass- istance. Reports from the various committees included one from Treasurer Ann Mer- cure stating she had receiv- ed a donation from the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223 in Terrace Bay. Rod reported a. very poor turnout for the visit from the Comfort Cloth- ing, and hoped it would im- prove with the next time they come. Their display had been excellent and very worthwhile for those in need of them. Elizabeth McLean and Ann Mercure had been in contact with Joann LeBlanc in regard to the Card Party, and final arrangements were made to assist. Transportation for several wishing to come to meetings from Schreiber was discussed and rides were offered. Debbie _ Stewart will come to the June 19 meeting of DAG to address the group on the legal Tourney set At least two top national ladies curling teams will participate in the Terrace Bay Curling Club's first annual Huggies Cash Spiel for ladies later this year. The tournament, which will be sponsored by the manufacturer of Huggies, Kimberly-Clark of Canada, will have $8,200 available in total prize money and a 24 rink limit, making it the first of its size in nor- thwestern Ontario, a Club news release noted. All 300 club members and various other sponsors besides Kimberly-Clark worked together to make the event a reality. It will be held on November 27 to 29 in Terrace Bay. Barbara Spadoni, one of the spiel's organizers, pointed out in the release that there will be a total of 10 cash prizes, with the first prize to be $3,000. The entry fee will be $250 per team. The Colleen Jones 1982 Canadian Ladies Cham- pion rink and the Pam Leavitt 1986 Ontario Lad- ies Runner-Up team have both agreed to attend the Terrace Bay tourney.
