Winnie's Scribbles Mr. Gino Caccamo presided for the regular meeting of the Chimo Club on Fri. Oct. 18 with 29 members in attendance. A memorial tribute was observed for our -late members, Mr. W. Paradise and Mrs. Annie Neimi. We will miss them from among us. Mr. Caccamo welcom- ed Myra Holmes and Babe Spikula to the meeting and also welcomed Paddy Guina back to the fold after the summer's absence. The President and members congratulated 3 winners in the Seniors Summer Games. Rena Ross-first in bowling, Gilbert Gerow third in Shuffleboard and Borden Ross second in darts. Bern Jacomb, Card Secretary reported sending a get well card to Arthur Lemieux and a sympathy card to the Paradis family and Neirhi's relations. Assisting Eva Gordon convenor of the Bazaar and Bake Sale to be held in the Club room on Nov. 2 are - Freda Gerow, Babe Spikula, Winnie Campbell, Rena Ross, Etta Gray, Bena Welbourne, Bart Kusik and Eirene Harness. The nominating Com- mittee will present their slate of Officers at the November meeting. In- stallation of Officers will take place on December 20 at the Annual Christmas Party. Happy Birthday was sung to Fred Harness, Betha Miller, Alex Gor- don, Jack Handel, Bill Duncan. Beth Macadam and Gino Caccamo. Winners of the raffles were W. Murphy, Fred Harness, Jeanne Huard, Margaret McKenna, Albina Welbourne, Joe Catagord and Bern Jacob. Halloween costumes were judged and the winners were - Albina Welbourne, Babe Spikula, Mrs. Huard and Freda Gerow. A pot luck lunch was enjoyed followed by games of Bridge, Shuffleboard and Whist. Congratulations were given to Mr. P. Noonan on his daughter's achievements. We wish her much success in her endeavours. St. Andrew's United Church in Schreiber celebrated its 100th an- niversary on October 13th with the Rev. Russell Peden of Thunder Bay as guest preacher. The Rev. Sharyl Marriott Lowry and her husband Andrew presented their children Graeme David Casey Lowry in infant baptism. Rev. Marriott Lowry of- ficiated in this sacrament of baptism. The Reverend Ed and Mrs. Prinseloor, a former Minister of St. An- drews sent a congratulatory message to the congrega- tion. This also being suitably and beautifully decorated with autumn leaves, assorted vegetables and fruit and flowers. The Choir sang a special an- them and the congregation joined in the Centennial Hymn followed by the hymn "Now thank we all our God". A luncheon of turkey and salads and pum- pkin pie was served in the lower hall following the services. Mrs. Lowry made a special Christening Cake for this occasion. Mrs. Georgina Davis was the convenor for the lun- cheon which was well at- tended hy members of the Congregation and members from Terrace Bay Community Church and friends. A display of pictures and memorabilia was enjoyed. Special guests were the parents of Mr. and Mrs. Lowry com- ing here from Eastern Ontario. Our deepest sympathy to the families of Mrs. Annie Neimi who passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Laine from the "Soo"' and also Mr. Raymond Neimi from Windsor were here to at- tend the funeral of Mrs. Neimi. Muriel Shewfelt from Echo Bay spent Thanksgiv- ing weekend with her parents~Dave and Marg Nesbitt, also Mrs. Dale Harten from the Soo. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine & ~ Lucy Mathews have gone to North Bay to make their new home. Parties were given. Goodbye and good luck. We shall miss you both. Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Gail Welbourne were honoured with a celebra- tion of their 25th anniver- sary on October the 19th in Terrace Bay Council News Terrace Bay Council minutes for Tuesday, Oc- tober 15, 1985. Those pre- sent were: Councillor O. Chapman,- Councillor M. Hamilton and Councillor W. Houston. Councillor Marjorie Hamilton was ap- pointed as Head of Coun- cil in the absence of the Reeve. Proir to the commence- ment of regular business, a public meeting with regard to the new zoning by-law was held. A review of the proposed changes from the existing zoning-by-law was presented, and input from the public solicited. It was noted .that Council may pass the by-law at anytime after the public meeting, and that notice of such passage and the right to ap- peal must be given. Deputations: Council agrees in principle to the - establishment of a Day Care Advisory Committee, and recommends to the in- coming Council that they investigate at their earliest opportunity the feasibility of establishing such a Committee. Correspondence: Coun- cil authorized a donation of $700.00 to the McCausland Hospital to assist with their annual recruitment tour. The Police Association gave notice of their desire to open negotiations for 1986. Council directed that this matter be referred to the incoming Council and the Association advised accordingly. Mr. Bud Wilman, M.P.P. requested details of Council's support for his resolution on funding of small fire departments. The clerk will reply on Coun- cil's behalf. The City of Thunder Bay requested the opinions of Council on the reloca- tion of the area E.M.O. in- to the city Fire Depart- ment's offices, and the Ci- ty's assumption of the en- tire municipal portion of the cost. Council directed the Clerk to advise the Ci- ty that Terrace Bay favours maintenance of the status quo. Council approved payout of accumulated sick leave to Mrs. A. Yates in the amount of $2098.63. Council resolved that one member of Council be authorized to attend the Crime Prevention Seminar in Thunder Bay, November 6, 1985 at the expense of the municipality. It was resolved that Council approve member- ship in the Community Crime Prevention Network in the name of the municipality at an annual fee of $25.00. ~ A quotation for supply and installation of a T-bar ski lift was received. Coun- cil will meet with the Recreation Committee in this regard. New Business: C: uncil gave authority for training of existing part-time staff in the airport operation pro- cedures so that they can be used in the absence of regular staff. Two alternative dates for a meeting with the Ministry of Natural Resources regarding the Slate Islands Park were established for confirmation with MNR. Motions and Notices of Motion: It was resolved that the Statements of Disbursements dated Oc- tober 11, 1985 in the total amount of $110,867.37 be approved. Council resolved that the statement of Disbursements for October for the Hydro utility be approved in the amount of $61,555.24. Council resolved that the Statement of Payroll Disbursement for October for the Township be ap- proved in the amount of $60,908.33. It was resolved that Council adopt By-law number 30-85, a by-law to authorize the municipality to enter into an agreement with the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Board for supplementary benefits. Council resolved to engage a consultant to up- date the Municipal Housing Policy Statement, and that the Ministry of Housing be requested to provide finan- cial assistance for this project. Councillor Chapman gave notice of a motion to support a resolution from the Township of Onondaga asking the provincial not to - declare Ontario officially bilingual. Reports: Council resolv- ed that the municipality engage Dave Desrosiers and Son for the hauling of winter sand to stockpile as per their quotation dated October I1, 1985. It was approved that Council approve atten- dance, at the expense of the municipality, by the four arena caretakers at the Maintenance Management seminar to be conducted in conjunction with the continued on page 10 the Town Hall. Supper was served and the head table includ- ed both the mothers Mrs. Eileen Lidkea from Thunder Bay and Mrs. Albina Welbourne. Bill Campbell was M.C., Mrs. Lorraine Huard gave a tribute through an amazing story about Gail & Earl. There were about 120 friends and guests atten- ding. After the supper a dance followed, the music was supplied by Danny and Darren. Mrs. Helen LeBlanc presented them with a money tree from the family and friends. She was a member of the Chimo Club, U.C.W., Ruby Rebekah Lodge, Womens Institute, and had receiv- ed a 25 year pin from the Canadian Cancer Society, Survived by her daughter Elsie, Mrs. N. Ross of Schreiber, Son Raymond of Windsor, Sister; Anna Mrs, O. Laine of Sault Ste. Marie. Granddaugheters; Ailson Riley, Charlotte Miller, Melanie Ross and Eric Niemi. Also survived by two great grandsons Cory and Kevin Miller. Predeceased by her hus- band Oscar in 1955. Son Elmer in 1984, and daughter Esther Riley in 1985. Resting at the King Funeral Home, Schreiber. Funeral services were on Monday, at 2:00 p.m. from St. Andrews. United Church. Interment Schreiber Cemetery.
