Sh wee Page 12, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, November 28, 1984 Police Report Terrace Bay Schreiber Police OPP PUBLIC NOTICE TO ALL ~ SNOWMOBILE USERS | The snowmobile season is approaching and we wish to emphasize the safety aspects of this sport. Many roads in our area used by snow- mobiles have gates or cable barriers which could result in injury or death to careless snowmobile operators and damage to their snowmobiles. We wish to remind all those who might use roads in the area of these potential hazards, and emphasize the need for care and common sense in snowmobiling. Please note that no unauthorized person is entitled to use the private roads of Kimberly- Clark of Canada Limited. Application for a Road Permit must be made to the Company. KIMBERLY-CLARK OF CANADA LIMITED On November 11th, police attended a chim- ney fire at 248 Kenog- ami Rd. There was minor smoke damage and the fire department attended and cleared the smoke from the res- idence. A fire call from C & D Enterprises was fe- ceived on November 12th. A small garbage fire was extinguished by the fire department. There was no damage from this fire to the building or contents. During this period two requests for assistance from travellers was handled. Assistance was given and the travellers continued on their jour- ney. : Three cases of willful damage were reported to the police and they are under investigation. Three motor vehicle accidents were report- ed and investigated. The total damage involved was $1,200.00. No charges were laid in connection with the ac- cidents. It would appear that two of the accidents were on private proper- ty. If the drivers in- volved had cleared their windows properly these accidents may not have occurred. Motorists are remind- ed that it is their respon- sibility and duty to en- sure that they have cleared the snow and frost from their windows before driving. During the upcoming months this is going to become a necessity. Persons who drive with frosted win- dows and snow covered windows are liable to be fined accordingly. Police were request- ed to attend and quell one disturbance at the Red Dog Motel and two family disputes. Several parking com- plaints were reported and parking violations tags were issued. You are reminded that. the parking in the Handi- capped and no parking zones are being en- forced. The area at the west end of the Imperial Motel, across from the Rec complex is a posted no parking zone and the vehicles which are found parked in this area are going to be tagged ac- cordingly. Those vehic- les obstructing the access to the delivery doors and the driveways associated with these doors can be towed away. Your assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. With the possibility of snow, motorists are re- minded that parking overnight on the streets is not allowed. Vehicles parked on the street and interfering with the re- moval of the snow will be tagged and can be towed away at the own- er's expense. It will make the plowing and sanding of the streets easier for the town, crews if vehicles are not parked on the street overnight. Give... THE HEART FUND An increase in acci- dents as a result of driv- ers failing to adjust their driving to road condi- tions, kept Officers of Schreiber Detachment busy during the past week. On reviewing the accident reports, it was found that four of the five drivers involved, were driving too fast at the time of the colli- sion. Two Manitoba res- idents received minor injuries when the driver, Colleen Wileman age 23 of Winnipeg iost control of a 1978 Chrysler on the west side of Cavers Hill and struck guide posts. The vehicle sustained approximately $17,000. damage. Alfred Gosselin age 20 of Terrace Bay damaged his vehicle and was shaken up when he lost control of his 1983 GMC Pick-up west of the Aguasabon River. The vehicle left the slip- pery road and ended up in the north ditch of Highway 17. A total of seven accidents were reported since the last report. The General Occur- rence ledger has been relatively quiet, with two thefts being re- ported. On November 1ith, a sum of money was stolen from the Schreiber Legion during the Remembrance Day Services and hubcaps and wheels were fe- ported stolen from Fig- liomeni's Texaco. As several local res- idents will attest to, a Select Traffic Enforce- ment car is presently being used in the De- tachment area to enforce speeding The unit is equipped with Moving Radar and several charges have al- infractions. ready been laid. The best way to avoid see- ing this unit right up close is to Slow Down and drive within the speed limit. At a recent Detachment Planning Meeting, statistical in- formation revealed that there was a 9 per cent increase in alcohol re- lated motorvehicle ac- cidents. To curb this trend, increased en- forcement will be util- ized over the coming months to detect and identify 'drinking drivers."' Random ve- hicle checks will be set up and persons suspect- ed of drinking will be given A.L.E.R.T. checks and Impaired Driving charges and Suspen- sions will result. Too many people are af- fected by the actions of these irresponsible per- sons and serious en- forcement methods must be used to keep these people from get- ting behind the wheel. Congratulations to the people of Rossport on receiving an award for "Crime Prevention'". in Thunder Bay on the 6th of November. Because of your increased awareness, prevention calls for service have de- creased, Criminal Oc- currences have de- creased and the clear- ance rate of crime has increased.
