Pee Wee Team Treated Royally in Terrace Bay The following article is reprinted from "The Guide" and also the "'Arnprior Chronicle" of Arnprior, Ontario. It shows the appreciation of the Arnprior people during their recent visit to Terrace Bay at the Pee Wee Jamboree. Thanks go out to both Terry Bryson and Glenn Arthur [Arnprior Rec Director] for their inter- est in seeing that this article was submitted to the "NEWS"'. The 17 local Pee Wee hockey players who tra- velled to Terrace Bay, Ontario for the North Shore Recreation Di- rectors Hockey Jam- boree on February 18- 24, were '"'treated like kings" during their stay, according to Arn- prior's director of rec- reation services, Glenn Arthur. Accompanied by four parent "chaperones", the Arnprior young- sters travelled to Ter- race Bay for a week during which time they not only played hockey, but attended school just like they would at home. The kids and parents were billetted and ac- cording to Arthur, their only expense was about one meal per day. "The families they stayed with were all super," Mr. Arthur. re- marked. The Arnprior Lions Club, Arnprior Legion, Arnprior Recreation Dept. and Air Canada, funded all other expen- ses incurred by the trip. What might have been a tense situation turn- ed out to be quite a thrill in the end for the kids. Because of dense fog, the plane couldn't- land in Thunder Bay, so the pilot had to circle around Sudbury instead. During that span of about 45 minutes, the youngsters . were invited to the cock- pit by the pilot to view the operation firsthand. "It was quite an ex- perience for the kids," said Arthur. "Of the 17, only three had flown before and here they are not only flying, but watching it from the cockpit."' At the Terrace Bay recreation facility, the Terrace Bay and Arn- prior kids got together for some hockey as well as bowling and_ skat- ing. A party was also held for the kids at the home of one of the bil- lets. The chaper- ones, Jack Schultz, Mar- cel Maissoneuve, and Lesley and Leo Lapier- re, received a tour of the local mill in .Terrace Bay, Kimberly Clark Pulp and Paper. The mill gave the kids and parents caps and later on the Terrace Bay min- or hockey association gave caps to each mem- ber of the Arnprior group. Mr. Arthur said that the Jamboree, the first one ever twinned be- tween two areas, was a great success. He said it was being held mainly to celebrate the Bicen- tennial year, but figures it will become an an- nual event. '"'We are really looking forward to their (Terrace Bay play- ers) trip back here."' During the Terrace Bay players trip to Arn- prior, the youngsters will be visiting Ottawa for a tour of the mint and the Parliament Build- ings. Tours of some of the local industries are being set up and on April 4th, the kids are invited to Almonte to watch the Flying Fa- thers in action. "We'll be sitting down with the four chaperones, the kids and their parents in the next week or so to make sure we provide our visitors with the same type of cordial hos- pitality that they extend- ed to us," Mr. Arthur said. The Arnprior group received overwhelm- ing hospitality from the town of Terrace Bay. The four chaperones who acted as Coaches and Assistant Coaches during the hockey games received numer- ous invitations for sup- per and coffee from the Terrace Bay organiz- ers, that unfortunately they had to decline on some conflicting invita- tions. Never have the chaperones ever felt so "at home" with such warm hospitality. Weare all looking for- ward to the second half of the Arnprior-Terrace Bay twinning which takes place from March 31st to April 8th. The players and chaperones extend an invitation to the residents of Arn- prior to come out and see the fun of a jambo- ree! BACK A FIGHTER. WITH EASTER SEALS.
