Several reasons why children dislike sports are: lack of participa- tion; susceptibility to in- jury; dislike for losing and no choice of posi- tion. To be successful as a sport, organizers must consider these princi- ples and need commit- tees to look at improve- ments in the game to meet participants' needs more closely. Parent education programmes are needed to explain the game and its princi- ples in programmes (eg. coaching and officiating clinics, player schools), must promote the sport's philosophy so that everyone under- stands the nature of the game. It is only by consider- ing the needs of the child that we can con- tinue to see increased involvement in sport for the benefit of the partici- pant and a decreased dropout rate. In Ringette, the above principles are con- stantly being reviewed to improve the game for the participants. Celebrated by Monsignor Basil Filevich, P.H. - V.G., of Holy Cross Ukrainian Church, Thunder Bay, Cantor, Mr. John Korda of Holy Cross Ukrainian Church, Thunder Bay. Assisted by Rev: K.
