Local Scouts awarded On October 2nd, dur- ing a special Awards Ceremony at Old Fort William, Jack Masters presented 21 Boy Scouts with their "Chief Scouts Award", the highest award that a boy scout can achieve. At that same ceremony, two Thunder Bay Venturers also received the: covet- ed "Queen's Venturer Award."' The Chief's Scout Award was inaugurated in 1973 by then Chief Scout of Canada, Gov- ernor General Roland Michener. In order to receive the prestigious award, Boy Scouts must: 1) Earn the finder Award. 2) Earn two of the following achievement badges at the gold le- vel: Anchor, Camp- craft or Exploring. 3) Have been active in your troop for one year (this is decided by your fellow scouts and your scout leader.) 4) Make and keep a promise to give at least 50 hours of voluntary service to your com- munity. 5) Satisfactorily pro- vide leadership to others in organizing and carry- ing out a service pro- ject, and 6) Meet with an adult group from another ag- ency or community group and discuss what improvements could be made in the community.
