Photo by Pauline Ziegler Terrace Ba Schreiber OsCTeFeNe y Vol. 18, No. 37 The Schreiber Fire Department have been - busy trying to raise funds for a new fire hall and thanks to many sup- porters, their dream for a new hall may come true quicker than they realize. For the past three years, the Fire Dept. have been restoring a 1948 Plymouth "Spe- cial Deluxe" to be used as the prize in a raffle. The car, which was once classed as a' "total wreck" - rusted out ... no tires ... no interior ... and no running parts, was donated to the Schreiber Fire Dept. by Ray Wilson. Depart- ment members were kept busy over the past three years, restoring it to its original state and by the appearance of the car, they have done an excellent job. The °48 Plymouth boasts of a rich burgun- dy colour, burgundy plush velour interior and polished chrome that tie "The Prize" ... @ beautifully restored 1948 Plymouth. . would blind you. Most of the materials used to restore the car were do- nated by various groups and outlets, namely: Spadoni Bros., Birch Motors, Auto Home Paints, Terry's Sight N'Sound, Riccis, Jess's Gulf, Conex and Zap's Auto Glass. Without the generousity of these people, the project would have been diffi- cult. All proceeds from the tickets will be going to- wards a new fire hall Wednesday, September 28, 1983 and the draw for the coveted car will take place at the Depart- ment's Hallowe'en Dance on October 28, 1983. Tickets are avail- able from any fire De- partment member or where you see the dis- play set up. The car has toured to displays in the Intercity Mall, Thunder Bay, Marathon and also- Terrace Bay. This fall, the residents of Marathon, Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge, Heron Bay and Mobert will have the opportu- nity to meet and talk with representatives from the many social services offered to our area. The Community Re- source Office in con- junction with the Men- tal Health Program is co-ordinating the Marathon Festival of Social Services on Octo- ber 28, 1983. Some of these: services are bas- ed in Marathon, others travel from Thunder Bay and Nipigon. We anti- cipate many interesting and informative dis- plays. A children's play area will be provided as well as_ refreshments and hopefully some en- tertainment. With the new de- velopment that is taking place. all around us, we are hoping that this format will encourage both newcomers and those of us that have been in the community for a while to come out and become aware of the variety and functions of the social services avail- able to them and to meet the people that provide them. Schreiber Ladies win Championsip Schreiber Ladies Fastball won the Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival trophy after competing with 11 other teams. The runners up were Nipigon's own 'Doc's Angels'? and the most valuable player was Schreiber's Nancy McCallum. Congratulations girls!
