Kanchan currently holds the Canadian Championship record for the longest distance run in a 24-hour race (106 miles, 400 yards). Stott has run numerous marathon races in such centres as Ottawa, New York and Maine. She points out that she does not consider herself to be a marathon runner, instead she clas- ses herself as an "ultra- distance' runner. "It's different from mara- thon running as the goal of ultra-distance run- ning is to keep the body calm, economical and restrained." Kanchan is part of the Sri Chinmoy Mara- thon Team and through Sri Chinmoy, and _ his philosophy which cen- tres on meditation and self-transendence, she is able to push herself beyond imagined boun- daries. '*Meditation has taught me to be peace- ful and calm," she says, "despite the odds and pain."' The run which is being monitored will fin- ish in Halifax, Nova Scotia hopefully by October.
