Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, August 10, 1983, page 9 Schreiber Recreation News Fall Programmes The time has arrived to begin planning and organizing the 1983 Fall Programme which runs from Sept. ist to Dec. 31st, 1983. A few pro- grammes that can be of- fered if enough inter- est is shown include: Calligraphy This course has some- thing to offer the begin- ners and more experi- enced student and in- cludes practical working in writing, lettering and illuminating besides de- signing with varied styles of calligraphy. The student will be introduced to some art history and exciting col- our work. Bring felt markers, coloured inks, and watercolours. Calli- graphy kits will be avail- able at the workshop. The course runs Satur- day, Sept. 24th, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Deadline to register is Sept. 16. Please contact the rec- reation office~for more information and to regis- ter at 824-2317. Paper Tole Workshop Paper Tole is an old art dating back to the 18th-19th century Eu- rope. It is a three di- mensional pictured cre- ated by cutting three or more identical prints and layering them to- gether using silicone. The student will be cut- ting each print apart in a different manner and sculpting and layering to produce a dimensional effect. Materials for the workshop will be avail- able at the course which takes place Sat. Oct. 1st. Deadline to register is Sept. 23rd. For more information and to regis- ter please contact the recreation office at 824- 2317. Relaxation Workshop Relaxation is the foundation for optimum physical, emotional and spiritual health. By at- tending this workshop you will learn simple re- laxation techniques that can be used at home, at work or anywhere and at any time. Many new methods of relaxation will be presented and you can adapt them to suit your lifestyle. The instructions are stimu- lating, fun, and very practical. Throughout the day you will be doing the techniques yourself and by the end of the workshop you will know how to relax! You will feel confident that being a better person is within your grasp. The work- shop takes place Satur- day, Nov. 5th, from 9 a.m. - 12 noon and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. To regis- ter please contact the recreation office at 824- 2317. Other courses that can be offered include Jazz Ballet Dance, Aerobic Dance and Gymnastics. If you have any sug- gestions or ideas please feel free to stop in at the -recreation office, Mon.- Fri. from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Swim News Well, our second ses- sion is almost over and it has proved to be quite successful. Registration for the third session will be held from Aug. 8th - Aug. 12th. The third session begins on Mon- day, August 15th and runs to Monday, Aug- ust 29th. Our annual swim show also proved to be quite successful. Your support and interest was greatly appreciated. Al- so do not forget that our swim-a-thon will be held on August 12th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the swim- mer who does the most lengths and who raises the most money. Spon- sor sheets are available at the pool or from the Drop-In staff. Youth Drop In On August 3rd three supervisors and seven kids travelled to Mani- touwadge to participate in a sportsfest. The Drop-in's An- nual Badminton Tourna- ment will be held on August 15th at the rec- reation centre. There is no registration fee, and prizes will be awarded. Racquets will be pro- vided. Senior Ball Tournament The Schreiber Parks and Recreation Dept. in conjunction with the Schreiber Ball Hockey League are hosting a Senior Invitational Ball Hockey Tournament on Saturday August 13th, and Sunday, August Hockey 14th at the Schreiber Arena. Teams through- out the North Shore will be battling for Tourna- ment Trophies and Indi- vidual Player Awards. Molson's Breweries Sales Rep. Dave Little- ford has been generous in providing Molson Sport Bags for individu- al player awards. The game of ball hockey is much like ice hockey, except it is faster paced, more demanding, and with few instances of rough play. Teams will play two thirty minute pe ods of gruelling end- - to- 1d action. All local residents are cordially invited to come out and support the Schreiber teams. Admission is free.
