The North Shore Directors Jambo- ree is scheduled for August 6th and we need a team from Terrace Bay. This is open to boys or girls 10-15 years of age. Dan Vienneau_ is the contact person for this activity. Talk to Dan at the pool or call the Recreation Office for de- tails or to register. There is no registra- tion fee. We wish to promote the sport of Water Polo and need your involvement. Tot Lot The activities of the Tot Lot have received a tremendous amount of participation. Between 20-30 youngsters at- tend each session. All .the sessions begin and end at the Arena. Times are as follows: Monday to Friday - 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. 7-12 year olds; 2-3:30 p.m. 3-7 year olds. Various activities are held throughout the day. Watch for details Economic Development on special "Fun Days". Minor Ball Program A special thank you from the Recreation Committee and staff to all the volunteers who helped with the running of the league. It is impossible to name all the volunteers, however if you assisted in any way "A Hearty Thank You". Winter Ice Requests It is difficult to think Winter, however the time to request your ice time for the 1983-84 season is upon us. The - regular weekly users are reminded that Ice Re- quests must be submit- ted by August 2nd. Win- ter schedules will be finalized by September in order to allow groups sufficient time to ad- vertise and. conduct registration. All re- quests must be in writ- ing and mailed to the Recreation Office, Box 460. Fall and Programs We are presently in Winter - the process of compiling programs for our Fall and Winter Recreation- al schedule to begin in September and continue until December 31st. We would appreciate hearing from you on possible programs you would like to see offer-' ed or if you have a particular skill you wish to share, please give us a call. All instructors are paid! Let's hear from you. Your suggestions are welcome. We will do our utmost to offer all programs suggested. Call 3542. Fall Fair 83 Let's make Fall Fair 83 bigger and better. Space is now available if you wish to reserve your space call 3542. Last Fall there were 30 displays and to date they are oing and to date they are going very quickly. Don't delay - book your space to-day. A new twist this year will be the plaque awarded to the Top Three Best De- corated Booths. A panel of judges will determine the Top Three Best Decorated Booths. Bernier told the Legis- lature, "The program we are introducing today is one more step in this process of helping northern communities to help themselves. Our profession- al staff will help com- munities become aware of and get in touch with other government agen- cies providing specific industrial development support programs." 'While we have been doing a lot of this until now on an ad hoc basis, these activities will be given priority across the North under.the new program. In addition, an appropriate- level of funding will be made available to support this thrust. This year, three quarters of a_ million dollars will be included for the Community Eco- nomic Development Pro- gram."' The assistance will in- clude the following ele- ments: ¢ Community awareness programs including eco- nomic development seminars; e Investigation of the community's potential for new economic de- velopment; ¢ The development of promotional materials; and e Where consultants are employed on approved projects the Ministry will reimburse up to 75 per cent of the costs. "The Ministry will continue to provide spe- cial capital development assistance for projects related to local econo- mic development where funds are not normally available from either the public or the private sector."' Why not attend open bowling on Wednesdays from 7-10 p.m. or Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Open Bowling is for members and non- members. Tennis Courts Complaints have been received that Non- Recreation Members are occupying the courts. The tennis courts are for Recreation Members only and membership can be obtained from the Recreation Office. If you are not a member and are found using the courts, your privilege of using the facility will be removed for the rest of the season. Martin Downs Tented Circus This Circus will per- form in less than six weeks. Main show tickets are available at the Recreation Of- fice. Advance tickets are lower in price than what you will pay at the tent entranceway. One of these tickets would be a perfect Birthday gift for someone. Karamit Performance Family entertainment is scheduled for Aug- ust 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the Curling Club. The performance will pro-~ vide music, plays that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Fall Courses - Confed- eration College The Terrace Bay Rec- reation Department, in conjunction with Con- federation College, will be offering the follow- ing courses, providing sufficient registration is received: Advanced Microwave Cooking Tentative Date: Saturday, October 1 This popular work- shop will be offered again due to popular de- mand. Learn how to prepare many tasty, new recipes. Further de- tails will follow. Paper Tole Workshop Tentative date: Satur- day, October 15 Paper tole is an old art dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe. It is a three- dimensional picture created by cutting three or more identical prints and layering them to- gether using silicone. The student will be cut- ting each print in a different manner, and sculpting and laying them to produce a di- mensional effect.
