Swim Program The final stages to Schreiber, Terrace Bay battle to a stale-mate The Schreiber Box- ers struck fast with three straight wins before Thunder Bay got over their shock and battled back to win the next three bouts by decision. The first bout saw Schreiber's Stan Nes- bitt pound Thunder Bay's Mike Morrison to the canvas twice in the first round, the experienced city fighter could not con- tinue after Nesbitt's punch to the body winded him, and Nes- bitt was awarded a technical knockout in the first round. Next, saw Lawren- ce McParland of Schreiber smash Thunder Bay's Carl Krebs around the ring, bloodying his nose, and forcing him to take three standing eight counts, be- fore being counted WiNDOWS We manufacture Windows & Thermal units on our premises out. McParland's first win in his first fight. Schreiber's Mario Vasilu impressed the city clubs with his skill as he outboxed tough Tim Esquiga and won a split deci- sion. It was Vasilu's second win in as many 'fights. The name "Mc- Kenzie" seems to scare Thunder Bay boxing promoters, as they always send their best to do battle with the MacKenzies. Both Bill and Gord were over their heads with veteran boxers, '"'Dia- mond' Jim Brady, and Clint '"'lronman"' Harris. A crowd- pleasing brawl took place in both bouts, with Billy losing to Brady, and Gordie losing to Harris. Both Schreiber fighters are looking to future re- matches. Schreiber's Gerry Filane pounded Thun- der Bay's undefeated might-mite champ, Trevor "Hurricane" Phillips all over the ring, but once again was given a repeat performance of his brother Dom's fight. After being _ totally dominated by the Schreiber fighter, true to their well- known fashion of the past, Thunder Bay judges gave the deci- sion to their boxer. To add to the bitterness felt by the Schreiber team, "Hurricane" Phillips was also awarded the "most improved boxer" tro- phy. Typical Thunder Bay sportsmanship. The next Schreiber Boxing Club outing takes place in Hearst on June 11th, as an impressive line-up of Schreiber boxers tra- vel to Hearst to bat- tle the Hearst club.
