Thunder Bay Auditor- jum The Council consider- ed a request from the Township of Conmee ur- ging the City of Thunder Bay to approve the Bal- moral-Hind Street site for the construction of the new Thunder Bay: Health Unit building. Reeve Fischer said, "Eighteen of nineteen municipalities have ap- proved it and a couple of Aldermen in Thunder Bay are bucking it. The Resolution says get off your butt." Councillor Mike Cosgrove added, "'otherwise we will move it to Schreiber." The Reeve said, "I think it is a good Resolution. We have to get it off the ground. They are just playing politics up there." On a motion by Mike Cosgrove, second- ed by Ed Borutski, the Council passed a motion endorsing the construct- ion of the Health Unit building as soon as pos- sible. The Council also re- ceived a request from the Thunder Bay Audi- torium Fund Raising Committee. The Com- mittee asked the Coun- cil for a dontion of funds for the construction of the new auditorium. Reeve Fischer said, "No.. Here's Thunder Bay trying to push around the Health Cen- - around the District Health Centre when we want to give them. the money and they: won't take it, and now they want money from us for the Auditorium. There's no way."' Renaming of the Streets The Council had pre- viously discussed the re- naming of some of the streets in town. Local residents were asked to express their opinions-of the proposal in letters and they did. Reeve Fischer said, "'We asked for a reply. We got a reply. It was 99 per cent against. I hope for my term of office this is shelved." Councillor Mike Cosgrove said, "The whole thing should be dropped im- mediately." The Council appoint- ed Kevin Cocks to the Schreiber Parks and Recreation Committee effective June 1, 1983. The towns will discuss hav- ing a 'section 63' done by the Ministry of Re- venue. The tax review would place all the com- munities on the same assessment basis for educational taxes and solve some of the pre- sent inequities be- tween communities.
